if you shoot first you are the bandit

Recommended Posts

is posible to implement in the humanity system a behavior like this ?

if someone shoot first to you, and you shoot him and kill him you dont lose humanity

this can help to the humanty and the self defence problem :)

It's already in the game. "Free target" in the debug HUD. If you get shot you have some time (I don't remember how long) to shoot back without a humanity penalty.

The problem is though that this requires you to actually be hit.

I've become a bandit simply because people have tried to shoot me and completely missed - I don't make that mistake and ensure I hit them, and usually put in a couple more rounds just to be safe...

Humanity is a good idea on paper, I really believe that; but how it's been implemented in the game in its current state? Not so much. I'd say remove humanity for the time being and keep working on the bugs that they've been working towards anyway! Adding such a big thing in at this stage will only (and has) created more issues for them to work on.

they need to test it, we're in alpha after all. if it's a feature planned for the release, and it's already implemented, AND it's not causing any serious issues to appear, why disable it?

You could be right but consider this... the mod isn't even out of alpha yet and PVP, bandit skins and humanity/"morality" seem to be the biggest points of discussion on these boards. People tend to remember negative things said about something rather than the *lack* of negative things... it's a caveman survival instinct or something. The mod is at too early a stage to garner a ton of any kind of publicity except ideally "it's a great zombie survival game with a PVP aspect for realism". It's much harder for a game to shake a negative word of mouth reputation than it is to get it, even after the things it was criticized for are fixed. I'm not suggesting the devs spend all their time working on these problems but at the same time understand why they might try to do something.

Maybe a check could be made for line of site when a weapon sounds so even if the bullet misses you you still get "free target". If it's a buddy of yours barely missing your head because he's trying to get a zombie off your back well, no biggie... it's not like you are going to turn around and shoot him. But if someone else is shooting at you, even if they miss, you could act in self defense without penalty.

I fully accept what you're saying, and agree to the full extent; but what I'm trying to say is that, although the humanity is likely to stay a part of this game - something I have no quarrels with - in its current state it's changed quite a lot about the game and is creating issues in itself, so the Dev(s) are having to spend time trying to create a resolution to the humanity issues, whilst in my opinion it could be better spent trying to fix some more of the underlying issues.

As you say, the game is still in early Alpha - my counter argument would ask why such a "big", game changing mechanic be implemented so early on whilst there is still a lot of work to be done.

I'm not slating the game, the devs, or their work processes - they're doing a bloody fantastic job! - I'm simply airing my opinion. :)

And I respect that :) An opinion isn't worth anything if you don't share it.
