Arma2:CO Steam or on its own?

I am planning on buying Arma2:CO from Bistudio since the game is on offer but:

1. Is there any differnce between the steam version and the game on its own?

2. How would this site give me a steam version?

Steam version automatically updates on major patches but the two versions are pretty similar, it's cheaper off BIS online store at the moment.

Some keys can be added to steam as a retail version although I'm not sure whether it works with ArmA, having it with steam is easier but DayZ will work with both. The Steam summer sale is meant to start soon so you could always hold out for it.

The steam version is garbage, trust me this is a game that doesn't play well with steam. When you try to first launch Combined ops from steam it will error out, have fun. I own the CO box set, and have since release, it's never once given me an issue. I've assisted people with the steam version, and it's a hastle, not to say that ArmA 2 is smooth in general.

Sorry but I have to step in here and say you are misinforming people. I bought Arma2 CO via steam. However I can launch the game without Steam or with it. Both work exactly the same. The only difference is with Steam running it, it tracks my hours played, but it in no way affects the game or how it runs. It is not a hassle (spelling) and quite simple to set up via steam with launch options (-nosplash =maxmem etc) so in the end it comes down to your personal preference.

To say that the "steam version is garbage" is rather silly, and moreover, totally incorrect. Boxed or Steam, the game is EXACTLY the same-Identical, minus the physical stuff you get with the boxed version of course.

Note:I would have bought the boxed version if I could have as I always prefer having the box and documentation, however I could not find this game in stores here, and at the time of purchase, I didn't want to order online then wait for delivery, as I had been watching DayZ videos on youtube for a week and just had to have it ASAP.

Ah I see now, you also use the SixUpdater so I gather you aren't so PC savvy that you managed to install it manually, which also explains why you probably had problems with steam. But in the end it really isn't rocket science and manual installation of DayZ is much preferred over using the SixUpdater, because you know excactly what files were placed where, which I prefer personally over letting a program do it's own thing without my knowledge. Of course for some people the sixupdater is a great tool and it's a good thing it exists.

So no, we won't be trusting you, lol
