Is it Exploiting When?

This thread is for you to ask questions you legitimately don't know the answer to as to whether or not an action in game is illegally exploiting a feature in a manner not intended. The community will undoubtedly respond, and perhaps an actual dev might post now and again if this thread is frequently bumped (or even stickied)

My questions.

Server Hopping can be an exploit, but I change servers to meet friends or find a day server all the time. Is changing servers to change your time of day an exploit?

Is changing servers in order to meet a friend legitimate even if you have zombies chasing you, were just in a firefight, or even if you just left a firefight?

Is changing servers legitimate if you HAPPEN to be next to a high value lootspawn when you change servers to meet a friend.

If you have more than half your ammo in a clip, and you change servers, refilling your mag, is that legitimate if you don't abuse it?

I don't think any of that is considered an exploit by the community at large. Most the bitching is over people disconnecting during firefights or server hopping to farm loot.

Granted, you're not trying to run from anything or employ any exploits, but my general rule of thumb is 'if I'm busy doing something, finish it, get a safe distance away, then log'.

You know, I think it's perfectly fine as long as you realize you shouldn't be abusing this. One thing when you have a reason to do this occasionally and another thing when you just do that all the damn time. Noone's going to argue when you took loot from the same spot on two servers when other nearby players hop through decades of servers to farm and abuse this.

Either way most if not all of what you've mentioned will probably get fixed sooner or later so you'll eventually have to adapt to the new rules and mechanics. And as for now, I wouldn't be worrying about it at all if I was you. It's simply good enough that you're not abusing it terribly.

If you're NOT in a fight, or not being chased by zombies then "hopping" is fine if you're gonna meet friends.

None of those are exploits, they are merely frowned upon by people that are annoyed by them.

You can use them without any problem, some servers might ban you if you get caught disconnecting in pvp but only if people actually make a case out of it, or if you disconnected in pvp while fighting an admin on the server you are on.

Things that are classified as exploits currently in game is duplicating items in ways that are not granted by the game itself. Using latency to dupe item etc.

Most of those will eventually be patched out, but in the alpha stage most of those are minor problems and will be saved for later as they are annoying but not game breaking.

I "exploit" when I see things are unfair.

In my opinion, zombies spawning in buildings is dumb. I aggro them, then abort.

In my opinion, if zombies spawn right next to you and agro, I abort.

In my opinion, night time is absolute bs. It's the same as me just turning off my monitor. So I go on a daytime server.

In my opinion, if I lose my gear to bullshit reasons, i.e. my guy deciding to swim in a pond when I tried to fill up my water, dying because of a bug/glitch/server hopper. I server hop for my gear.

Most people will see me as an exploiter. All I have to say is, idc =/

None of the things you listed I would call an exploit.

The only thing I would clearly consider an "exploit" is intentionally duplicating items on a large scale.

That said, unfortunately there are plenty of times this may indeed happen unintentionally. Well, at first.

You know, Alpha and all. Buggy as hell.

All other stuff or some arbitrary rules posted somewhere because it annoys someone/is bad/not implemented yet or not "intended" - water under the bridge.

Bring the mod to a reasonable beta stage first and maybe then we could start talking about exploits and "rules" and maybe I would even give a crap. ;)
