Zed is just the way that the letter Z is said in French.

I THINK that the term (in reference to zombies), came from the book "World War Z" although it may predate.

My fiancée is half French-Canadian and she says zed instead of Z all the time, even when zombies are not involved. In fact, she dislikes the term in relation to zombies, despite loving zombie games.

I call them walkers, hoppers (also monkeys) and crawlers.

The crawlers used to be hilarious when they would doggedly follow you for miles. You'd see them inching across a field you'd just crossed, unable to stop wanting to kill that one guy that shot a gun when you were both ten villages over. If only he'd slow down and give a guy a chance...
