Story: A Party Turned Sour

Recommended Posts

So, last night in Chernarus was special.

I was carefully scavenging and sneaking around in Svetlo-Karmanovka area in the north. Didn't meet, or even see a single soul in any of the cities and villages, but clearly there had been others. I found some nice items, like a bulletproof vest and attachable pouches for it. I was going slowly westwards, and even set up a camp where I left an AK-74 and some other gear. Then there was a message from the admin, BBQ party in Cherno fire station starting in 30 minutes. Everyone's invited, guns lowered. The whole thing smelled like suicide to me, but as they say curiosity killed the cat. It was as long walk as they can be in Chernarus, but I thought there's an opportunity to scout heli crash sites when I return back to north.  If I return. To make myself a less appealing target, I left pretty much all my good stuff to the camp before starting to run south. It was already evening, so it would be pretty dark by the time I get in Cherno.

I picked up an SKS from the airfield near Krasno, and some bullets for it. I was carrying a Blaze, so this was an improvement for the scenario in which the party in Cherno would turn sour. After the airfield I managed to take a wrong turn, and found myself in Berezino harbor area. Carrying two rifles I didn't check compass as often as I should have. From Berezino I ran pretty much directly to Dubky, only paused to drink, and to shoot an occasional zombie if it was directly on my way.

So, about an hour later I reach Dubky, so I am very close to Cherno. An hour late from the beginning of the party too, but my thoughts were, that if the party is good it's still on, and if it was to turn bad, it had done that by now. I was curious. I ran further south until I reached the coast, and then headed towards the fire station which lies in southwestern part of the city.

While I'm still in west side a single bullet hits ground near me. It's a clear miss, impact sound is weak and there is no gun shot. Felt like someone was really reaching with his gun. I change the street and get some buildings behind my back. There are no more shots. I move more carefully to southwestern part. Area near the fire station looks peaceful. I sneak around for a couple of minutes, and see no one. I advance quietly and stand a while beside the building trying to listen to give me a clue is there anything going on. There is no talking either. Hmmm. I stay in shadows for a minute, and then open the door holding my SKS down, but in my hands just in case, not knowing what to expect. I'm ready to greet, and ready to open fire at the same time.

Nothing had prepared me to what I was about to see. Had the party turned sour? Well yes, it had, indeed. This, I thought, could be a worst case dictionary definition of a party turning sour. Or, if this was Mexico, and it was the day of the dead, then it would be a great party.

A big scattered  bunch of bodies lying on the floor. Must be over 20 of them, in this relatively small space. One guy going around, alone, checking their gear, in a seemingly careless way like this was normal. I talk to him, he asks do I have any idea what has happened here. "No man, no more than you do. Looks like a party turned into a massacre."

I move through the room towards the stairs. People brought so much stuff, and almost all is ruined. Many, I suppose, brought their goodwill too, and that was ruined as well. By gunshots. Maybe there were couple of bad guys lying on the floor, but when a massacre takes place it's usually the good people who die. I don't know what exactly happened, but fuck them snotfaced dimwits who caused this. It's the easiest thing in the world to ruin a party, but you really need to be an asshole to do so. In a post apocalyptic world it doesn't take any guts to ruin a party, but it takes some guts to go to a party.

So where are the bad guys now? Some guy starts to talk from outside of the building. "The whole building is surrounded." First I think he's one of the bad guys making a threat or something, but I sense a gravely disappointed tone in his voice. "You guys started to shoot!" I talk with him and tell I just arrived, and he accuses me of lying. I tell him I just came from up north, and for me it doesn't make a difference if he believes me or not, but it's okay for him to pick up his gear if that is what he wants. He decides to do so. I find a pristine ballistic helmet and take it from a dead girl head, and put it on. I don't care to loot the bodies, but you know, the situation being what it is, I just wanna have a helmet on my head.

Another guy comes in, starts to talk about what's going outside, I turn to look at him, and BOOM! Someone kills me. With a single shotgun shot from behind. I have a ballistic helmet and a plate carrier with them pouches, and a backpack full of stuff, but one shot is still enough. So much for protective gear in Dayz. Bulletproof my ass.

I respawn in Cherno, it's already night and dark outside. I run back to the fire station pretty much directly, in the center most likely the very same talentless sniper takes another shot and misses again by at least 10 meters - I guess he would be better off hunting barns and immobile busses. This time I don't even count him as a threat. But when I get back to the station I have to dodge multiple shots and bursts from assault rifles, and even see some of the guys shooting at me. I pass by a friendly in a press vest, who warns me not to go in, as the building is surrounded. Then two attackers spot us and I split, some shots are fired, I can only hope the guy is okay.

I manage to go inside unharmed. There are more people this time, mostly other newborns. I don't care to talk to anyone, my corpse is already looted and the guy who shot me might as well been one of the guys who are inside now... so many aholes in this world, and so few bullets, and even fewer clips and magazines. I just pick up a backpack, then find a working Blaze and some bullets for it, and climb to the tower. Watching outside I count at least four guys with guns running around, and take shots at two of them, and hit one at least. I plan to kill them all one by one. Suddenly I hear several bursts fired downstairs. Probably couple of the bad guys rushed in to shoot at the bunch of survivors trying to pick up some loot from the floor amongst the bodies. Maybe they'll come up here as well? I turn to watch the stairs, the first to come up will be the first served.

Then server goes down. I guess admin decided to cool down the situation. Today, after a nights sleep I woke up in the same tower. There was no one around, and there were no traces left from the last nights massacre. I started my long walk back to north. Where I like it best.

But you know, it might take a while before I visit another big party...

[Do I have any screenshots? Nope - and I regret it. Also, would be cool to hear of other people who were in "the party". Haven't joined ts yet in that server, so if someone who reads this was there, please tell about your experience here. Other comments are welcomed too, would be interesting to know is this like the typical outcome of parties in Chernarus. Or was this text just too long to read lol]

yea you have to be weary of parties in DAYz. Go with good intentions, but be ready to fight.

If you want to stop by a less doomed party we'll be at Polana Factory on Saturday night! Not quite so far from your locale as Cherno either!
