Players bodies use energy too fast

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I think the new zombies and the way we have to behave around them is nice. Really adds a new tension to the game. You say adapt? We adapt. The problem is, stealth is about being slow and careful. Slow and careful doesn't really add up when your body uses energy like you're an american automobile.

Me and a friend played yesterday. Knowing we can't just rush in and run around looting like crazy with these zombies, we decide to use stealth tactics. My buddy hid in a tree line with a good view of the town we wanted to search, keeping an eye on me and the surrounding so he could warn me about incoming players and/or zombies while I looted the place, crouching and stealthing. However, a players body uses up energy and water way too fast as it is now. When using a stealthy play style, you pretty much use more energy and/or water (perhaps mostly water) than you gain, which makes it feel like being stealthy isn't really premiered.

I think the energy system needs to be revoked. Perhaps reducing energy/water use in a non-linear way the slower you move, making you last a long time if you don't sprint everywhere.

Not sure if sprinting/jogging/walking changes your energy consumption. If not I'm sure it is something that will be implemented in the future.

Walking seemed to slow down the need for water but jogging/sprinting seemed to make no difference. This is unconfirmed.

Well, the main point is that water/energy is consumed too fast for stealth to be a good style of playing, at the moment.

Is there no one else who thinks this is the case? :S

I do think it is the case.

But the whole food/water/energy system needs a lot of tweaking.

I presume it is nowhere near what they want it to be.

Cause how can my character eat over a dozen apples, or a couple cans of food and still be hungry?

How can my character drink over 2 liters of water only to be thirsty again after a 15 minute jog?

At the moment you basically need constant acces to food and water to keep your character alive.

This just isn't my experience. Once I get to a very high level energized and hydrated status it takes hours for it to begin dropping if I don't eat anything (which is rare as I'm always eating). I typically leave canned/packaged food alone too unless I'm starving in the very early parts of a character's life.

I've been playing on the accelerated time servers and in that context energy consumption even "feels" right.

I suppose if one was taking "being sneaky" to some ridiculous extreme it might be detrimental. What I'd suggest considering is weighing how much effort you have to put into going somewhere vs. what you plan to get out of it. If you spend a ton of time trying to weave your way through a nest of zombies in a dense area, you should expect a good payoff, if that payoff isn't assured: move on. There's also a cost/benefit of engaging zombies directly. If there's only one and you're in good condition, beating the hell of it in melee may be a good choice, you'll take some hits but you'll heal in time.

They will probably tweak it soon, but right now its a bit tedious having to eat and drink almost all the time.
