Make PU Scope More Realistic

Recommended Posts

Currently, when using the PU scope the entire area around the scope become zoomed-in.  The zoom on the region around the scope is greater than what would be available without the scope.  I was thinking the scope should be redone to add to the immersion of the allready great game.

  • Picture 1 shows Aim Down Sights zoomed-in with PU Scope.  Notice the high level of zoom outside the scope.
  • Picture 2 shows ADS zoomed-in without a scope.  Notice the limited view distance.
  • Picture 3 shows an overlay of what I was thinking.  Simply an overlay of 1 onto 2.. Notice the added blur.

Let me know what you survivors think.

PS  Sorry about the poor scope quality.  It was all I had.

Yeah, I noticed it doesn't have the blackout like the LRS. I use 3 screens and I don't know if you've seen how our outside (peripheral) monitors magnify to start with... I'll equip a damaged PU on an SKS just to use the zoom on my extreme sides of my display.

That's exactly how I noticed it. I found my first PU with SKS and I caught my self pulling it off and on, despite its degradation, just to see further.  Thanks for that input!

So we've been told in the past that we don't get to have proper scopes like Red Orchestra because it's aparently quite taxing on resources.

Worked fantastic in RO2 though.

Regular 2d scopes for all magnified optics then that would work.

The PU scope in RO2 is a excellent piece of how scope in games should be like, along with the game Contagions Remington 700's scope.

As Heav said though, this does take a lotttt of resources, because it has to magnify one part of the screen and render it while it is rendering the rest of the outside of the scope in a blurred kind of screen and still having things happening in the scope and out side it. When i play Contagion on my potato of a computer the Remington 700 kills my FPS when im aiming with the scope.

The problem with 2D scopes is that they make you more vulnerable as you can only see where the scope is pointing and they are unrealistic in the fact when you look in a scope in real life you still see outside of the scope. And 2D scopes just look shabby to me.

Another problem I find with PIP scopes is render distance within the optic is really bad.

Take RHS pip for instance at the moment the acog can only render to about 400m or so.

In Red orchestra 2 the optics render out only so far but that is not a problem usually with the small maps.

Contagion is the same thing.

2d scopes look perfectly fine, they are versatile and simply work and are our best bet for highly functional scopes with great performance and more importantly the correct magnification .
