An Actual in game Day Z

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about what would happen if there was an actual Day Z in this game. Putting aside the logistics of getting 50 people to login to the game at the same time, what i mean is simple.

50 players spawn along the coast at the same time at random positions. All loot spawns once, once it is gone it doesnt respawn. Once you die you cant login again. You logout for any reason you die in game. No other players can login while the "day" is in progress.

The game begins. What would happen? How long would it last before there were one person or a group left? Would people just bolt for Military spawn locations? Would everyone eventually be running around with hatchets after the ammo has run dry?

Just thinking out loud during a boring day at work.

This would be a neat experiment. I'm sure it would be tricky getting 50 people coordinated for it, but definitely doable and interesting.

You have solved the bandit vs survivor dilemma :) This way everyone would just try to survive instead of going on rampages killing people. This way everyone would be a super cautious bandit though. No teaming up but no outrageous murdering either. I would head north quick to the northwest corner and hunt game with some silentish weapon.

I hope there comes a possibility for admin to set their maps tournament or free for all types :) Great idea altogether!

Yeah, I've also been thinking something along these lines because I've been wondering how to turn the game into a spectator sport. Once a person logs out they have 20 minutes to get back into the game or they're 'dead'.

I think if you did it like Battle Royale and gave people reasons to gtfo of certain zones you could also give spectators a reason to keep watching as well.

Well it wouldn't have to be 50 people at the same time. It could be 1 hour wait and then the game starts with as many players as there are joined (has to be over 10 or some other rule).

It would defintely be cool to watch the different scenarios play out. You would get some super tense situations arise.

Maybe the danger zones would spawn extra amount of zombies so you would definitely not want to stay there.

It sounds interesting, but I don;t see it working.

I don't know about you, but I'd like to log off every now and then.

Also, I see this becoming a campfest and.or taking a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

If the loot is limited, then the total zombies should be locked as well. If you clear an area of zombies, it's clear for good. People might be willing to tea, up to make areas safe, and once that's done, then they can fortify against other players, or turn on one another. That would make it a great social experiment. Fifty players. A thousand zombies. Chaos commence!

If zombies were dead for good upon killing then the amount of them should be exaggerated versus free for all games.

EDIT: I don't think a thousand zombies would be enough, let's say 2k suits me well :) At least an amount that doesn't let you just focus on killing and hunting fellow playas.

Yeah that would be one problem - how long would it actually take. Perhaps the solution is allowing players to logoff but their body stays in game - so it can still be killed. There would still have to be a time limit though so as to prevent players from logging out for a week, logging back in and finding themselves King or Queen of Chernarus.

The solution is easy: The danger zones - mentioned earlier in this thread - would grow in numbers. First just one city or a patch of forest would be dangerous with tens or hundreds of zombies but eventually there would be no safe place. Last survivor would win the tournament and get a lot of points in the tournament leaderboards or something :)

The game could be designed so after 5 hours of playing there was practically no safe place for leaving your character for over 5 minutes standing. I also agree with the disconnecting leaves your character standing still online.

I suppose that would work.

It wouldn't be for me though. That would just be a very drawn out deathmatch.

Also a good idea that doesn't deserve starting a thread: When you kill another player, you can loot him etc, but after 5 minutes he turns into a zombie. This way the server would eventually fill up with zombies. If you killed turned zombies they spawn somewhere else instead of not spawning again.

Maybe have a 10 minute zombie time for everyone at start so they can get on their own ways. This would help avoid the beach-massacre. Then after the zombie time is over a patch of the game map would turn into a danger zone every 5 minutes.

The problem with that is they are Infected, not traditional zombies. They can be killed but wont reanimate. But then again i dont know how Rocket is treating how infection works.

I myself would like to see the dead players remain so others can see and gauge how many survivors are left. If you came across an area with four dead players you might think "Holy shit what happened?"

Myself, i actually wonder how people would play the game. Would players be more likely to band together? Would it become a glorified deathmatch? Would the Bean Wars continue since they are a finite resource? Would players get themselves some territory and guard it against others? It would be fascinating to see player reactions..

i was thinking about something like this too. if say 27 people sign up, have a server with 27 slots. have everyone on the coast run to elektro and hold down the city until theres one person left standing. maybe as the "player was killed" message shows up, ban that killed player so they cant respawn. i know this deviates from your idea, as its just a big deathmatch, but having the day limited to one city would make it a lot shorter as someone could camp in the forest and never engage or get engaged.

Yeah, i suppose the whole point is to see what would happen in a more "realistic" scenario. Knowing that your bullets are precious, high end weapons are very limited and knowing that once a supermarket has been looted there isnt going to be a magic fairy who repopulates it with Makarovs and beans every half hour.

Would players shoot on sight if they knew the bullet could bring an army of Zeds down on them when ammo is in short supply and will eventually run out?

This sounds awesome as an additional game-mode...but I agree this could take FOREVER...especially if people camp (inevitably they will).

A suggestion for a suggestion: For initial testing of this have the playable area limited from the coast up to 1km inland. This forces the action to be up close and personal on the coast and people can't hide in a random section of forest. Then as it goes through its own level of development and play-testing start adding more and more playable space. If the whole map was available you know someone would just repair a helicopter and fly off the map...

Camping is solved by scarcity of food. As long as animals do not re-spawn, food will run out rather quickly for most people. This would actually create an incredible dynamic at the start because people would have to weigh priorities - should I try and gather more powerful weapons, or start hunting and build up a storehouse of food?

Incredible idea. Would love to see it and participate in at least one round.
