Whitelist on a Public Server?

Recommended Posts

So I like the idea of having a public server so that others can access it and play however they want (persistence would need to be fixed and enabled,) and have whitelisting for regulars and non douchers, this would also let us have a blacklist for hackers/exploiters (correct?) I'm all about realism and survival, buuuuut this is still a vidya game and I like playing my game where I can have a loot stash on a persistent server. I think combining all of that together would make for an awesome dayz experience. Thoughts?

I can see why people get interested in the idea. But it's philosophically a bit difficult, as has some of the benefits of a private server (mainly access control), while remaining on the public hive. There's a point of view that says if you're on the public hive, then you just have to live with a community which sadly includes douches.

Some recent investigations seemed to show that it was also very, very complicated (and expensive) to arrange in practice now - though may have been easier in the past.

This will never happen.  With it being connected to the public hive you won't be able to have a loot stash that only you and your friends have access too.  It's similar to getting a public server just for loot farming.

I have been kicked from servers which say Public due to white listing.....

Maybe they are really private but they say public I swear..

Also what the hell is with Lockwood offical.... Public server but if u ever join u have a fresh spawn not your normal character..

A lot of confusion is spread by server names. Sometimes this is accidental (just aren't updated when changed), sometimes deliberate. There's a UK server which is deliberately titled to look official, but from which I've been kicked several times.

I'm not so worried about my loot stash being accessible only to my friends and myself, if somebody comes across it then it's theirs, end of story, I would just like to have a "homebase" setup in the public hive so when I die, I can grab my stash and continue fighting the douchers. Plus when pers gets fixed and more PvE starts happening, I dont want to be limited on loot just because my private shard "runs out." I'm one of the founders for Welcome to the Jungle, and we've been toying around with the idea of a private shard, whitelisting is something thats attractive to us. The only way we can think of to have our cake and eat it too, is basically have 2 copies of the game, but that's silly IMHO.

I understand where you're coming from.  It's just so easily exploitable that I can't ever see it happening.  I'm not saying you personally would do this, but you know others would.
