What next?

Recommended Posts

Hi fellas,

I have been playing DayZ for a while now (111 hours according to Steam) and I absolutely love the game. From time to time i team up with people I meet, but mostly i play by myself. I try to help people out whenever I can and always chat with folks instead of KOS. Of course, I have died. Sometimes due to plain and simple stupidity (such as alt-tabbing inside of a prison), other times by bandits.

Now I have come to a stage in the game where i have kitted up the way I want. Good camo clothing, hunting backpack, gorka helmet + visor, AKM with drum mag and bipod plus a decent sidearm. But the thing is, I constantly feel scared of running into other people and losing my stuff. My mere appearance may scare people off and cause KOS. But i really want to keep playing and find new angles and challenges.

Thus, I am turning to you guys. What do you suggest, how should I approach the game from this point on?

Best regards and thanks in advance for any tips.

Daniel

My suggestions:

  1. Avoid the coast. Kitted guys are killed first by PVP players and bambis may zerg you for a quick gear up.
  2. With only 111 hours you've not seen the world yet. Visit DayZDB.com and check the map. Some suggestions:
    1. Visit a castle or two - maybe you'll find a sword! (low risk)
    2. Visit a military base or two. (high risk)
    3. Visit some of the inland towns, get familiar with them. Maybe find a V3S while you're at it! (medium risk, high risk of dying due to V3S bugs)
    4. Try hunting, making a fire, and eating something other than beans and potatoes. (low risk)
    5. Search for a helicopter crash. (medium risk)
    6. Check out Green Mountain. (medium risk)
  3. You could also go full on KOS and murder a bunch of people. (high risk)
  4. You could find people who are more PVP and play as a hero/avenger. (high risk)

Just some ideas. Remember - trust noone, and when you're well geared you look like a Thanksgiving dinner to those without gear.

Check out Green Mountain. (medium risk)

I prefer to stay away from that place.... gives me the creeps.... too many weird things happen to me there.

An OP. Try getting into a clan. I was much like you, solo player doing my own thing. Once I got into a clan I have been able to have more fun and actually able to find fun and active PvP encounters. There are many things to do in DayZ. Trading, Farming, Hunting (Animals & Players), Protect the New Players, Cannibal and many others. Just gotta find one that you will enjoy.

I mainly play on a private server, though, I am always on the lookout for heli crash sites to get better geared, get all the attachments for my AKS-74U, M4 and Mp5. Usually I get shot doing this, but an hour or so later, I am right back to where I was.

I would definately suggest exploring around, just make sure you know where you are so you don't get lost in the middle of nowhere and can't get back and die due to starvation/dehydration/hypo-hyperthermia etc.

Sometimes I also try and get matching gear, i.e. all firefighter, all paramedic and so forth. Changes things up a bit, rather than just getting a Mosin and camping for half an hour at the triangle base.

Thanks for the suggestions!

1. I've avoided the coast since day 1. Never liked the PVP madness going on there.

2. Already did that, except hunting. I'll try that out! My favorite parts of the map are the western, inland, areas. Took the V3S for a spin around the map during the evening, love seeing the sunset while cruising.

3. Sounds like an idea :)

But I would feel awful to kill random people. Doesn't really fit with my idea of a good DayZ experience.

Whenever I'm lucky enough to find a hell site, it's always empty :(

I mainly go from Zeleno - Triangle Base - NWAF, and on occassion Novaya Petrovka - Severograd. You wll catch 90% of all the heli crashes with this route. Though, I would advise extreme caution. Trucks, groups and zeds are a extreme problem along this route, which is why I never run it on full or mid servers.

Update:

I went to NWAF for some action and immediately saw two fully-kitted guys kill a newbie on sight, across the landing strip. Afterwards they jumped in a truck and drove over towards my position. I quickly hid under a tree and observed the vehicle. Soon thereafter they stopped right by the prison located in the southwestern part of NWAF. I sneaked up on the driver as he got out of the vehicle. Killed him with three AKM shots. The other guy run away. I went around the corner, heard a shot miss me, ran into the prison building, closed the doors and aimed towards the entrance. Right now my heart is pounding and my palms are sweaty. Maybe ten seconds later the second guy creeps through the entrance, AKM raised. I beat him to it with two shots to the head. Looted mags off of them and finally found the PSO scope for my AKM. Not wanting to stick around for more people I jump into the V3S and drive off towards Novaya Petrovka.

Hands down my best DayZ experience thus far!
