Player Governor: Wrong signature for file addons\weapon_muzzles.pbo

Recommended Posts

Hello,

yesterday night I played dayZ SA on a private server and got a red message: "Player Governor: Wrong signature for file addons\weapon_muzzles.pbo". I didn't get kicked but I wonder what happened and if I need to correct something.

The server I played on was quite laggy during this evening. I got the error message only once and did some relogins to the same server after this message appeared. The day before I cleared a camp from other players so I hope this message isn't due to duped riffles (or even hacked ones though I don't recognize any super powers from the robbed equipment).

I do have a feedback account but I need to know what data can still be usefull. Client didn't crash so I presume dump reports from C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\

won't help much - especially because of 2 or 3 relogins afterwards?

I didn't play since, so to be sure I zipped these dumps and made a copy of the file C:\Programs (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\Addons\weapon_muzzles.pbo tonight.

Regards

zimtente

Those messages appear to pretty much everyone. There was a player named "Governor" on that server, the error was due to him. I don't think you have to worry about anything unless you were "Governor"

Dear WolfgangErikson,

many thanks for the fast response! But regarding messages alike "Player xyz kicked of the game (BattlEye: Client not responding)" which is an error message from BattlEye, I suspect a daemon called "Player Governor" (consider the colon right after) which is checking signatures of configs stating this file to be wrong.

I don't call myself Governor and why should DayZ tell every player on the server that player "Governor" has a corrupted file? Unfortunately I can't tell if there was a player named Governor but it doesn't make sense to me.

Again thanks for your response!

I have seen that message (maybe not the same exact *.pbo file) many times with "Governor" replaced by many other player names. That is a line being added to the server log file, I don't know why they sometimes (always?) appear on screen for other players, but it does... and it's quite common. Perhaps just another method for identifying potential hackers?

Here is a link to a similar post (in Arma II: AO) demonstrating the log created with a different player name: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?134536-Getting-kicked-from-servers-for-wrong-signatures

And another Arma II bug report example: https://dev.withsix.com/issues/24568

You'll notice the message has different player names instead of Governor. In the first example, the player posting the report was the one with the incorrect file, and was also booted because of it. Again, unless your name is the one appearing in those messages, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm 90% sure I'm right, but am ready and willing to be corrected by other more active players.

Then the message definitely wasn't about you.

and why should DayZ tell every player on the server that player "Governor" has a corrupted file?

Maybe to let other players know that someone could be using a modified file for an advantage? I'm not sure why but it does happen frequently.   I don't think there's anything for you to correct or report.

Phew, thanks to both of you I can sleep well tonight  .

Slightly misleading syntax combined with unhappy coincidence can become quite troublesome ;)

GaryWalnuts, you have a point there.

You two are the best!
