Persistence Check

Recommended Posts

Many servers with Persistence ON in the name dont always tend to have it on. Best way, what me and my friends normally use is to find first an official server. We had best experience with them, can be any of the Vilayer Servers, european/american f.e Vilayer NL 3-53.

Second step is to always check the serves persistence before you start stashing items/tents. If you carry rope and burlap sack with you, you can make a improvised backbag and leave it there with maybe a can inside. Or Protector Case, they dont disappear on servers with Persistence ON. Play on the server until the next server restart occur or wait 4-5 hours and then check back in. Most official Servers reset every 4 hours. Servertime restart would look something like 00:00, 04:00, 08:00, 12:00 etc.

Never start packing up your stuff straight after the weekly maintenance/patch since there are still bugs, servers configurations gets changed etc. Always give it a couple of normal restarts.

Also, from my personal experience, no Server is 100% safe, unless you know the person who is renting the server etc. Sometimes shit happens, some servers disappear etc. It's still in Alpha, have that always in your mind!

Small Edit that I think I also have to post.

The Example server I gave might not be a good idea to use currently. Me and a friend lost alot of nice items on one of the NL Vilayer servers this wednesday, after the maintenance. For some reason the server configuration had been reset/changed and turned persistence OFF on some of the NL servers. So, if you wanna be 100% sure, try the server out with one of the methods I included in this post.

Vinny Gambini: I object to this witness being called at this time. We've been given no prior notice he'd testify. No discovery of any tests he's conducted or reports he's prepared. And as the court is aware, the defense is entitled to advance notice of any witness who will testify, particularly to those who will give scientific evidence, so that we can properly prepare for cross-examination, as well as to give the defense an opportunity to have the witness's reports reviewed by a defense expert, who might then be in a position to contradict the veracity of his conclusions.

[there is a short pause as Judge Haller appears caught off-guard by Vinny's sudden compentence with knowledge of the law]

Judge Chamberlain Haller: Mr. Gambini?

Vinny Gambini: Yes, sir?

Judge Chamberlain Haller: That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection.

Vinny Gambini: Thank you, Your Honor.

Judge Chamberlain Haller: [firm tone] Overruled.

Larsehh , That is the most exact intelligent spot on reply to any question i have ever read on these forums. Exactly So , Rock on Kid , I'm coming to you for answers from now on

Sorry about the movie Quote  :)   It just made me think of this part.

How can you quickly check if a server has persistence on or just has "Persistence:On" in the server name?

I was hoping they would add the ability to check servers with the new UI, Especially since I found this acknowledged on the feedback tracker

How ever currently there is no quick way to check and there probably wont be for awhile

Tell me if I'm wrong:

On a P-OFF server, anything the server has spawned is 'spawned loot', so it will stay there until the next restart.

BUT if you pick something up it becomes one of your objects, so if you drop it again and go away, after a while it will vanish

- it's not spawned loot any more, no one is around, and the server recycles it.

Sometimes this happens pretty fast (in a minute or so). Drop a can of beans, come back 5 mins later and see if it is still there. Or log out and come back.

Isn't that right? Seems to work like that.

Just the day before yesterday I dropped a SKS behind the barn on the mainland just across the prison island. The next day and several server restarts later it was still there, although the server didn't mention persistence in his name. Only the item orientation change slightly.

If you are alone, and the server is NOT Persistent - drop a can of beans on the ground and log out, log back in and the beans IS GONE. OK? - The sever is NON-persistent.

If the server is Persistent the beans is STILL THERE.

This is not rocket science.

You got to understand there is 100% difference between a loot item spawned on the ground and an item YOU put on the ground. They are treated in a different way by the server.

As soon as you pick something up, and put it back down, it is NOT a spawned loot item any more, it is one of your items

On a persistent server it will stay where you put it, on a NON-persistent server it will de-spawn as soon as there are no players in the area.

understand that persistence is not 'buggy' it is an ongoing development, there is a lot behind it that the player don't see (even if it looks like an on/off switch, it aint) enjoy playing the alpha, I just found a boat with 12 pairs of boots .. so I got to choose the coolest best fit.. nice!

[edit - AND there is now started up - a thread detailing persistence from the devs side, check it out]
