Trying to suggest a thread indicator

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, while playing DayZ today I thought a lot how we could get a solution to several problems related to the KoS mentality. Most postings I read were people stating to shoot on sight because they couldn't estimate if someone else was a thread or not. These guys don't like PKing. But often the lack of a thread indicator forces them to do it.

So let me say I thought about something that would not break a bandits experience as well. Suggestion is easy:

Add "Humanity" as a feature right below "Blood" in the debug box.

I've set some values that may vary in your opinion, just to show some examples:

Newly spawned Players (ALL, even dead bandits) start at 50 Humanity, giving them the COLOR YELLOW (NAME COLOR)

Color will CHANGE when it reaches certain values:

RED (HIGHLY DANGEROUS/BANDIT) -251 or less

PURPLE (THREADFUL) -250 to 0

YELLOW (AVERAGE) 1 to 250

BLUE (FRIENDLY) 251 to 499

GREEN (MEDIC/VERY FRIENDLY) 500 or more

Now the color can rise or fall, depending on what you do:

-give blood transfusion to player +30

-give epi to unconscious player +20

-give painkillers to shaking player +10

-bandage a bleeding player +10

-wound player -10 each shot hit

-kill (murder) a player -50 (in addition to wound, example 2 shot kill = -70)

-kill a zombie +1

that last thing about killing zombies... I think your humanity shoud rise a tiny bit with each zombie you kill because its just natural to try to kill these things, but you could also argument that it would make your humanity fall by -1 each because you shooting zeds but once they were humans... PoV thing.

Also if bandit skins would come back I'd say lets add +25 for each bandit you kill, but bandits would probably cry because everybody would hunt em for high humanity.. bandits would become rare and would have a hard time to trust people.. yeh u feeling this bandits? This is what survivors feel right now.. ;)

Now, what I haven't mentioned yet, I think about the thread indicator as being ALLOWED by the players first. To get it to work, you sit next to each other then scroll to your mousewheel till it says "introduce". It would be like looking into the others eyes, their soul, for a second, afterwars "knowing" what they have done. Once done you will be able to see the color of this player, at least as long as he stays on the server, maybe longer or even forever, thats an arguable point.

This indicator, as suggested, could...

-make bandits "friendly" introducing themselves as a code red, then shooting the poor guy having a very good laugh

-finally benefit people helping each other

-solve the general KoS issue. If you're friendly, you will intodruce yourself, showing your color proving that you're friendly and haven't murdered tons of people yet. Bandits would still shoot on sight, but now it would even make sense! Why? because they wouldn't want others to know they're bandits! They were trying to keep their red secret ;)

So well.. this is pretty much a raw suggestion, but I think it would generally add some kind of needed justice, helping to mangage KoS and I think it's pretty fair when every spawn returns you to your basic humanity. So you can start any run as bandit or survivor, it would still be up to you...

Last thing I'd like to add I know it's a hardcore game, and this is not suggested to take off either pvp or other hardcore game aspects. Thanks for reading!
