Forced first person view?

Recommended Posts

So when I got home around 4:00 pm CST servers were fine and full. Letting go between first and third person view. I logged off after I got to the NW Airport. Once I got back on. Every fu*king server that i have tried to go on forced first person view. I really can't play the mod anymore cause of this. I just want to know if the mod is forcing this or the server admins are changing to first person view only.

It's a server-side setting. If you're finding first-person view a bit clunky you can try disabling deadzone and smoothing.

OMGOMGOMG I was on a server the other day that forced 1st person and disabled the green cross-hairs (forcing you to aim with the sights on the gun). I really loved it. Does anyone know the name of this server or ones that have these features disabled? It really adds to the realism and teaches you do use the sights.

US Hardcore servers dont allow 3rd person, or crosshairs (or anything that helps players out)

While first person has the fortune of preventing people from looking places they wouldn't be able to, it brings other imbalances. For one, the servers without crosshairs in your screen brings a disadvantage to people who don't use a third-party software to put a dot in the middle of their screen. It also brings an advantage to people using several monitors to increase their fov.

I suppose you can't have it all though, the difference between full gamma ans brightness at night still outweights these, and there's nothing we can do about it.

A dot in the middle of your screen is of little use as the bullets do not originate from your viewpoint as they do in many other games. They actually come from the muzzle of your gun.

If you worry about fov, you can zoom out or look around. More fov isn't always good anyway. Arma has much detail, the more you see the harder it is to notice details. Looking around is important, no matter what.

Those imbalances as you call them are marginal.

To all those persons claiming they would stop playing if they couldn't have third person.:

If that headbobbing annoys you so badly... disable it. Ok, first person here is somewhat different to other games, but not completely and after getting used to it, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

If you're all like "hurr durr, I'm Lara Croft from Tombraider and I need my thirdperson view!" then maybe this game isn't for you. ;)

Headbobbing isnt the problem, Arma2's incredibad collision models are the problem. Nothing says zombie apocalypse like trying to navigate through a doorway without getting stuck and alerting every zed within a mile when you stand up to take a run at it.

Well then maybe you shouldn't be trying to wield something like a winchester or enfield in confined spaces. Use a more compact weapon or switch to your sidearm.

(That has little to do with first person btw)

I holster my weapon, and it has everything to do with first person view, in 3rd person you can see your character and are more aware of your surroundings allowing better spacial awareness....like in real life.

3rd person is actually alot more realistic, it emulates far more accurately the peripheral vision we as humans have, 1st person is like wearing blinders.

It makes very little sense to campaign for 1st person when it offers the least immersion.

I agree on the point of spatial awareness (which is actually one the arma devs mentioned themselves) but in a pvp-environment the downsides outweight that by far.

While spatial awareness is somewhat reduced, the immersion is always better from the first person perspective. (the original meaning of the word "immersion" (to dive in) already tells that)

Try doubletapping your minus key when your in a confined space. That will decrease and lock your zoomlevel, resulting in a bigger FoV.

Finally, I do like using third person in ArmA myself (when travelling around, or simply to check if im properly camoflaged) but this whole "baaa, I can't play without it!!!!11!" is bullshit.

I used to force the FoV to as wide as it would go in Arma2 (used to play alot of PR) only because you really dont need 3rd person in any of the other arma2 mods/vanilla, you dont do alot of navigating confined spaces (depending on the scenario). However in Dayz, having that extra 90deg of view is a life saver, the clunky movement means edging round a corner to see if an alley way is clear usually puts you slap bang in the middle of the alley alerting more Z's, which is especially a problem now considering the sheer volume of them in urban areas.

I actually prefer first person when travelling, it helps me stop getting distracted by things and i usually travel in forests so i dont really need 3rd person. However, in urban environments, third person for me is essential, it gives you the spacial awareness you NEED to have when youre travelling that close to large groups of zombies where staying quiet and hidden is paramount.

Server admins set the difficulty setting based on their own and their communities preferences, if you dislike how a server is run, you could politely ask for the reaons for the specific settings or find a server tailored more towards your needs.

I like a little 3rd person now and then, so I play on server that allows it now and then(2001-2012). ArmA is defenently for me too.

Thats why I love to use the zoomout-function. Can be easily toggled whenever you need it. (I guess I dont have to mention how important the alt-key is in ArmA)

Anyway, I don't remember ever having any real problems moving around a corner or doorway. To me the movement is exactly the same in FPV as in TPV.

Just walk towards the corner, look at the corner and lean to the side. Unless you go so close to it that you block your own weapon everything should be perfectly fine.

Taking care of not getting ur weapon stuck comes naturally after a while, it's not really a big deal.
