game no longer working after update 0.53.. freezes when trying to go back to main menu from server list

Recommended Posts

for some strange reason.. still unknown to me.. I'm no longer able to play DayZ since the last update,
when I enter the serverlist it shows NO servers... in non of the tabs.. when I try to get back to main menu the game totally crashes..
as I'm unable to close the entire application *even force kill in task manager!* I'm forced to reboot my entire pc to get it working propperly again

any word on what might cause this? since the devs delayed this update for a week for more 'testing'
one would expect (alpha build or not) after 2/3 weeks testing on exp. servers having solved most bugs and gamebreakers would be accomplished.. guess
having stable and exp. running different systems.. doesnt work since the devs clearly can't guarantee a working product even AFTER extensive testing..

the last few build were FINE... now they once again implement something 'new' breaking stuff that was already working in the first place..
I do hope they fix this problem sooner than later.. i'm not the only one having this problem.. but are prob. the first that actively respond to yet another screw up by the devs, wanting to implement 20 things at once without checking for comparability of their current code..

Are all of your drivers up to date? Any viruses or maleware on your PC? Have you verified the game files through steam? Not trying to derail your rant but a few builds ago I was having the same issues. Cleaned my PC and updated my drivers and it started working again. It may not help your situation but its a place to start

that's the problem man... everything is up to date... havent had any problems since 0.31 came out.. everything (apart from the occasional 'dayz.exe stopped working') worked just fine before 0.53... so I don't know what their doing.. and if it was a hardware issue.. don't you think other games (more stable/heavy) than dayz would have bigger issues? BSODS etc. non of those occur.

and virusses.. highly doubtful since I scan my pc almost 3 times a week with 3 different programs (malware/spyware/rootkits/virusses/worm and the lot)

so it's probably the devs screwing up ;) since (when it crashes) i'm unable to close the application.. never had this before.. I was always able to force close the application in taskmanager..

Regarding the "no servers" issue, try resetting your winsock.

tried didn't work... still keeps freezing up for some reason.. and i'm pretty sure its not my ram modules doing something strange.. otherwise more games would be affected ;) like far cry 3 etc.. ram intensive games that won't stall unless your modules are starting to get faulty..

as noted in my first comment and last comment.. everything worked FINE until this last patch (0.53) now its beginning to freeze up etc.

It could possibly be that exact problem (as far as DayZ anyways being alpha and all). I don't know how much RAM you have but I was using win xp until the latest patch where it just simply doesn't work anymore, the game always crashed for some reason when I left a server after some odd amount of time. Now that I'm using win 7 it seems to want to do some strange things like hanging and not wanting to kill the process, the way I get around it is after I've been in a server for some time instead of trying to leave or legitimately exit the game I just alt-tab and end the process before it starts its BS, then restart the game. This also has a good side effect of clearing unnecessary things from your RAM that the game keeps while its running.

DayZ seems to have some issues about RAM even if it hasn't all been used yet, works fine when the game first starts but after a little bit of play and then trying to change servers or exit menus problems happen. I tend to think its a RAM thing because of the systems I have played DayZ on and comparing them to other peoples who have more than enough to support whatever ungodly problems might occur from bad memory management.

my system:

Gigabyte Z77-D3H mobo

intel core i5 overclocked to 4.2 ghz

Antec Kuhler 620 H2o watercooling kit

16 gigs of DDR3 1600 memory (corsair) (mem. modules are fine)

nvidea geforce 660 TI 2 gigs vram

2 TB HDD by seagate (no problems found with it yet)

Windows 7 64 bit OS

so judging by your answer its not that relevant.. and I can't 'force' it to shutdown once I go into serverlist and exit it.. as long as I don't join any servers etc. just main menu is fine..

after I try to join a server (through search/remote search/join friend through steam) it crashes.. and won't let me force shutdown it.. trough task manager.

Even if it is not a RAM issue, try ending through task manager before you leave a server through the game and it will probably end right away (maybe). Then just restart the game.

If not, try running the game in a window, I would say it could affect your fps but I guess it shouldn't matter given your specs.

Other than that, its up to the DayZ devs to fix this unless someone else knows a way around it.
