Repeatedly kicked for high Ping?

Recommended Posts

Dozens of servers seem to have implemented very strict ping time limits. I've joined a few servers with <48ms ping and I still get kicked.

I've read in the general server rules that you should not kick players for high ping or desync unless it's extremely excessive. I doubt that even a ping of 300ms could be deemed excessive. I think this practice should be changed, perhaps with a maximum ping requirement set at a permanent 500ms.

No. As an example, my server is the only South African server available to South Africans. As such, it has a ping limit of 220. Anything higher and it gets flooded with internationals, thus forcing the South Africans to go play on servers with pings of upwards of 200. This is not fair on them, as the internationals have hundreds of servers they can play on, and the South Africans have only one.

Besides, if you're playing on a server in your own country, any ping over 150 is excessive. You're likely being kicked for ping spikes on your end. Rather look into what is causing your issues than wanting to force servers to set ping limits according to your preferences.

You are not allowed to put in any kind of regulations like that. Period.

Read the rules about hosting a DayZ server.

I understand the reasoning behind it, but it doesn't mean you can do it.

I would say about 150-200ms is a good spot be kicking for ping, I'm not saying this is rule or the limit. However any servers that are kicking people with 50+ ping are definitely not following our rules and that is an issue of course.

So Jivix if you could please reply here in the thread with the servers that are doing this I would like to get it sorted out.

Yes he can kick for high ping and a ping limit of 220 is just fine. He is not telling anyone that they are not allowed to play on his server because of where they live he is just forcing a healthy service environment. So like you said "read the rules about hosting a DayZ server".

- Kicking for extremely excessive ping or desync is permitted' date=' but if abused is grounds for blacklisting[/quote']

Extremely excessive or desync is not 220, it's more inwards of 400+.

I don't care what your opinion is on what excessive ping is or isn't, but my ping limit of 220 is just fine and is there to stay. 220 is much higher than most servers allow.

Nor is enforcing a ping limit of 220 abusive. If you want to argue that me enforcing a ping limit is abusive, take it up with the devs and lemme know what they say.

I have no way of controlling ping spikes, as they are related to my ISP and not my personal computer. This happens even at another house with a different ISP. I don't understand why it would immediately kick after a single, instantaneous, spike in ping time anyways. Why doesn't it just check again after a few seconds to make sure the ping is back within tolerance?

And as for internationals joining local servers, I completely agree with you. However, I think instead of putting in strict ping time requirements, there should be a region system so by default you can only see servers within your country or continent. Most games have already implemented this, I'm not exactly sure why arma II hasn't.

What was anyone thinking? Being 2 seconds behind everything and making the rest of the server lag should be ok. We might as well allow players to be 5 seconds behind also.

500ms Ping Limit ROFL!

Ping Limit of 220 is being generous.

Any game server/client dealing with latent connections beyond the scope of its ability to interpolate is going to see poor performance for all players connected to the server. Usually worse for the players connecting with a good ping, < 80, and not as noticeable for those connecting with the 150+.

I like a 150 ping Limit but have raised mine just to deal with some players lag spikes. Once the server has been up for a while and gets popular to nearby connections, < 150, then I will set it back to 150 again.

It's a legitimate reason and admins will do it anyway regardless so unless the DayZ team are gonna troll servers to make sure there are no ping restrictions (I think they might have better things to do) it's unlikely to be enforced.

500ms is a half second desync and is totally un-acceptable, we have ours on 220ms and I consider that to be too high tbh.

There is no reason to expect the other 49 players in a server to suffer the consequence of either your poorly configured network or the crappy ISP that you are using.

DayZ staff has said 150-200 M/s Ping limits are acceptable. I don't feel like finding the thread where it was posted, but you can kick for high pings.

I've set mine to 275. Its a bit generous. But I feel like its not too much and not too forgiving.

This.

We don't currently kick for high pings, but I wouldn't say it's abusive behavior whatsoever. It's perfectly acceptable and common practice. If you're having excessive spikes while using the internet regularly then pick up the phone to your ISP and get them to look into it.

Go play in your own Time Zones and quit making servers lag.

If you want to play with the other side of the planet, go get better internet.

Here's a question then, let's say a server admin kicks someone for a ping of over 600ms. The disgruntled player comes on the forums, cries Admin abuse and bad mouths the server. What would the server admin have to post on here to show the reason for the kick was genuine? Would simple screen shots suffice? Or would server logs be required?

The ban appeals forum has this neat little sticky that says "do not post here if you have been kicked.".

Now the onus isn't on me to prove anything as a server admin, you get a nice little message that says excessive ping when you get kicked. There is no ambiguity. If someone posts admin abuse and says he got kicked for high ping, he should get laughed right off the internet.

The Ping Cap is set in Battleye. Both mine are at 150. Its in the MOTD as well, no shock or horror that it happened.

I don't sit over my Rcon and wait for someone with a 156 to come in and kick them, its automated.

It does generate a log file that says BE kick for Ping (XXX) and gives the ping amount when it happened.
