Terminal Ballistics and Bullet Penetration Currently in DayZ

I met a player who didn't have a gun inside a house, so I tried talking to him. He said a few words and disappeared around the corner. I was in such a friendly and unsuspicious (not sure if that's a word) phase of my DayZ evolution that I just followed him. As soon as I entered the doorway I got axed in the shoulder. I wasn't happy and I ran back. He stayed in the room and it looked like he was still standing behind the same wall. I sprayed the wall with my M4 thinking all I needed to do next was to go and finish him off, in case he survived those hits. As you probably suspect DayZ had something different in mind for me. :)

 

Long story short I killed the guy in the end but could have done without the second axe hit that ruined some of my gear. My at the time inexperienced and overly trusting approach aside - I thought to myself: What on earth is that wall made of? It was just wooden planks. It turns out it's not just walls - there are a lot more bulletproof objects currently in DayZ. My friend and I have done hours of testing. I hope this will help remove some of the mystery surrounding the "Bulletproof Chernarus".

:thumbsup:  This is indeed very useful, and interesting. I think when we get basic "base building" and a more stable persistence we might see an overhaul for bullet penetration and most object "durability". This is just an assumption though.

I hope the add/fix penetration sooner rather than later as it will add a lot of combat strategy. I am also curious if ballistics are accurate now as i remember a while back Gews put them straight.

Does anyone have information on bullet ricochet? Have you witnessed it happen or have you tried to get a bullet to ricochet on purpose? I saw a couple of videos yesterday that made it look like it's in the game, but I've never seen it myself.
