Question about security with the new admin tools

Recommended Posts

It's fantastic, and for some reasons its not (badmins, griefer/butthurt admins), that admins now have some control over their servers, but I have a question about this. While it seems rare, it's known that some hackers can follow you server to server presumably by obtaining your IP address or maybe some other means related to Steam or DayZ. My clan has recently become the target of some hackers, they don't seem to be much more than lowly script kiddies, however just to be safe I want to pose this question:

Is it possible that with the information the new admin tools give you that a badmin hacker could use this to track/harass players in this manner?

It's a matter of the Steam-Platform, not the game itself.

In any game that is connected to the Steam-Server-Browser you are able to see who you've played with recently and if they leave the server you can join them again through their Steam-Profile.

Make sure to check your privacy-settings on Steam.

Yes I know that we use it all the time to join on each other and mine are configured already, but they are somehow able to follow players server to server, location to location in game (which, presumably, shouldn't be related at all to steam) regardless of steam privacy settings. This has happened to a number of popular streamers and one player in my clan. I'm concerned that they might be able to use this to outright ruin one persons gaming experience pretty much all the time, whenever they feel like it and no matter what server or where that person goes in-game. I understand that development has its methods and hacks should be dealt with when it is efficient to do so, but I feel this one is a major security issue.
