Why are most vehicles destroyed?

I havent really thought of it until now but why are nearly all cars rusted wrecks what happened. If it was a nuclear apocalypse i could understand but a zombie apocalypse doesnt really make much sense.

A full-scale riot breaks out if a zombie apocalypse would happen; it's a fact. In riots people light up cars, crash them, etc. No car is left spared.

There was a sale at Wal-mart on appliances and the infection hit while they were being delivered to homes.
