Combat lag?

Recommended Posts

Whats up with this games net code?

OK ye I know Alpha blah blah blah, but I want to know if its just me (my connection) thats experiencing this?

Combat is sometimes laggy as hell, not exactly laggy but is not getting calculated 1 for 1, either its you or the enemy, its like a coin toss to see whose dmg will get done first?

Unless you're shooting at a distance, or the enemy isn't shooting back, its not that bad. Although I have had a few occasions where the enemies carry on running and then snap back to where they get killed... which means Ive spent 30 rounds trying to kill a already dead player.

Shooting close up in this game is a hit and miss. Ive been on the losing and winning side multiple times and after the fight, no matter the outcome... Im always like what? how? lol

I was looting Barlota ATC tower at night and long story short, went down to check if these guys were coming in... went back up, they took the side ladder... one of them was just inside the glass door crouched and I came up from the top stairs...we exchanged fire for 2 secs and SOMEHOW I did not get hit once? at point blank range? he had I both had a AKMs btw ... anyway killed his friend who was hiding behind the lockers on the outside, but it was handgun vs AKM so yeah. You cant tell me he was such a bad shot at 3-2 meters?

On the flip side... last night, I start shooting at a random guy, missed... he ran into a garage, I opened the door and shot him 3 times with the pump action... guess what... he was taking his gun off his shoulder and on my last shot he shot his sks and put me down... I could see he didn't have any blood... that was point black shooting again... with a shottie? how does that work?

Worst example of the buggy combat has to be the melee... players teleporting around, getting hit when the enemy isn't even close, or you punching the air but still making contact?...

There you have it... this isn't a rant page (I'm done ranting with this game, I'm over all its BS)

I just want to confirm that its not only me, and/or that its a "thing"/problem thats being worked on

You should have played GTA:SAMP, like 2 years ago. Than you would know what combat lagg is .. - Really, that takes it to a whole new level -

But indeed, in Dayz it's not very good. But it will always be present, I suppose it should be possible to reduce it, but you also see combat lagg in other games.
For example, incase you play COD, BF, CS, ever have gotten shot, but be like "Dafuq, I was already past that corner?"

Best thing to do now, is to filter your server list to servers under 50 ping.
Join one you seem to like, play on it, see how the experience is there. Does it lagg when it gets full? Join another one. Do this untill you find a pretty good server that is pretty stable because of a good host.
Then you just only play on that server.

Some latency is reasonable and expected for online games. BF and COD both use very low tick-rate, so you'll often get the "shot while ducking for cover" problem.

But at least it is predictable in those games. You're talking about normal latency due to the time it takes packets to travel a global network. That problem will never be completely gone, because of physics, but it can be reduced by using a higher tickrate (like most Source games, which run around 100 tickrate).

DayZs problem isn't with latency. It's most likely caused by the server choking on data or something. OP described several scenarios that are the norm for DayZ servers, that are not experienced in any of the other AAA fps games on a regular basis. Like Warhoax said: in DayZ it's not very good.

So to answer OPs question; yes, this happens to everyone. No, there isn't much that you can do about it. Maybe they'll fix it someday.

The devs have touched on the server performance subject several times in the past status reports (many different elements affect this). Don't worry, server performance will be addressed during development.

The games you have bring up,its not a latency issue.

The biggest problem game devs have is to make it run smooth, and that is where the issue lies"oh ive died round the corner crap"it is called interpolation the game is trying to make your character smooth for others to see with out interpolation things would be very choppy...

So when you die round a corner in those other games you are only seeing the model round the corner not the hitbox models....

In this game things are alot different, they don't even have latency compensation in this game YET.

Correct me if im wrong..ive looked and i cant find it or any reference to it..
