"My leg is in pain" and desaturated screen

I keep getting messages in red text saying that my leg is in pain.  And my screen is black and white like im on the verge of death.  But my character status says hydrated and healthy.  No mention of injury or anything.  And im able to sprint, jump, etc just fine.  Been like this for several hours.  Any thoughts?

You leg isn't broken but needs a splint. Cut a tree use a rag or bandage and make a splint.

when i usually get the ''pain'' status it's because i've been hit a lot by zombies..probably if you bled a lot it's the reason of black-white effect.

also hydrated and healty could hide a ''sick'' status taken with sewing kits or direct zombies hits..try antibiotics or mix alcohol on your rags.

What's the status of your shoes? I once saw that message when I fell from a "high" spot and it ruined my shoes :p

Hydrated and Energised need to be bright green, not dark green.

Yeah I'm having an issue similar to this. In mine though I had just been hit once by a zombie and I one hit him with the axe, bandaged myself and everything seemed fine but then it was giving me the leg pain message but it wont even let me splint anything and alcohol on the rags did nothing, painkillers haven't helped either. Is it just because I don't have morphine that I can't fix this? Also there is no status effect listed (if that helps) Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm pretty sure the last time this happened my guy just ran around with leg pain while I tried everything and then I'm pretty sure he just broke his leg and went unconscious simultaneously lol

What do you mean it wont let you splint? There is a bug at the moment which can prevent things like making stone knives, making splints, applying splints, drinking all from a  canteen, and many more.

 

There are a couple of solutions.

 

One is to put the splint in your hand, press W and dont let it go, Select the option to splint, continue to press W untill the process is finished.  This also works for making splints, stone knives etc.

 

The other way to get around it is as follows:

 

Put the rags in your hand

Press F11

Before you put your fingers to your hear in the animation, drag sticks onto the rags and select the make splint option.

 

Now you should have a splint made.  

 

Put the splint in your hands

Press F11

Before the animation ends, apply the splint on yourself and it should instantly complete the process.

Hey thanks I really appreciate it I'm going to have to try that animation trick because yeah, it won't even let me try to make a splint, and I don't think I'm crazy here but correct me if I'm wrong, you can make splints from bandages and sticks as well as rags and sticks right?

 

I believe I've made them from both materials before, but right now I have the leg in pain message but when I go to put the bandages over the sticks it only comes up as craft fireplace kit and not a splint. I'm definitely concerned because I've got a pretty full kit and don't want to lose it over some nonsense, although you'll have that at this stage of the game. Will be hopping on shortly to test out those ideas, will let you know how it goes, also thanks again for the reply, I'm fairly new to the game and super new to the community so here's hoping I'll be able to help people out too as I get a better understanding of the game lol.

 

 

***Just wanted to follow up, just to be certain it wasn't some strange instance on the server I tried all the normal options again for making the leg in pain message go away, nothing worked just the same as yesterday, as well as no option to even create a splint.

 

Cue your miraculous advice about putting the bandage in my hand and starting the F11 animation, for some reason it took a few attempts for it to actually craft but then on the time it worked it was instantaneous, and then same for the application, and it would actually tell me unable to use on myself, then like you said, used F11 and it took a time or two but then boom, applied the splint and no more leg pain, or fear of stumbling to my death at any moment. Your advice even allowed me the chance to drive my first truck which was awesome, every time I'd been by a spawn point they were never there, unfortunately I promptly ran it outta gas but it was nice to test it out lol.

Ive not made splints from bandages for a while (as it used up the whole bandage) but it should still work with both rags and bandages.  Not heard any issues with people using bandages.

 

Glad you managed to get the splint made.  It took me a few attempts to get the timing right for making the splint, but once you do it once, it should be easy from there on in.  As long as you perform the actions before your fingers are pointing at your head, it should be fine.

Try the "continually pressing W" way of doing it next time.  Its quicker and safer than forcing your character into a suicide animation.

Soooo many people come here asking and making threads about this and it should be easy to find since its a pain in the ass (or leg) bug if you don't know how to get it to work.

I agree with you sir, I luckily found it before it caused my death (this time) lol. The first time it happened to me naturally I assumed it was because I didn't have the proper medical tools to deal with the problem so i just kept running around till I fell over and died haha, joining the forums has already saved me a bit of grief so I'm definitely glad I did it.

The original post confuses me a bit. He says he is "hydrated and healthy" but his screen is void of color. If there's no color, that means you're low on blood... and as far as I know, it's basically impossible to be low on blood and have full health ("Healthy" status indicator). The only instance I can think of this even being possible would be if someone had taken blood from you with a blood bag repeatedly.

I had the exact same problem as OP once and I noticed that my boots were ruined. I swapped them out and the pain went away.

 

EDIT: same problem except that I didn't have the gray screen. I just couldn't figure out why my leg was constantly hurting until I noticed my boots were ruined.

Unless something has changed, splinting also gets rid of excessive weapon sway when you are still and at rest. There are fractures/breaks that don't get a status message but are still there. I'm sure most were aware of this but I thought I'd share. If I have room, I always try to carry a crafted splint in my bag when going to combat.

Another way to fix the incomplete action issue is to right click the item, choose "cancel current action", wait a moment or two and re-try it. This usually seems to work for me when it fails prior.
