Advanced Inventory System

Recommended Posts

So le me start by saying when I first started playing the Standalone the thing that I loved the most was the inventory system.kind of reminds you off resident evil in some ways.

Now it's been a year later and I still love it but I would really love to see some upgrade done to this beautiful system.

1. The one thing I want the most is for slots to be made a lil more realistic. For example blue jeans have 4 slots all bundled together, when in reality those 4slots are 4 different pockets. I would love to see them separate slots accordingly. So jeans would still have 4slots but they would be all separated, and you wouldn't for example be able to stick a protector case in there. (Here comes things in my pants jokes)

2. Another implementation I would love to see are improvised accessories. Let's put the ropes to more use, let us tie our helmet to our backpack. Let me use a leather sewing kit to turn a chest pistol holder into a leg pistol holder. I feel like there's so much that can be added to this field.

3. This is prob the easiest to do,let us play Tetris with our inventory. Give us the ability to turn our items. I really don't see why this isn't implemented yet but I still got my hopes.

So what do you guys think of these ideas, and please anything else you guys would like to see added or changed please speak your mind gents and ladies.

Upgrades to the inventory system are definitely going to come, but it's a little down the list and the main reason for that is that the current system is surprisingly solid considering the game has been developing.

I do agree with the rope being used to "roll up" certain elements so they don't take up slots in the inventory. I get a little annoyed at so much space being taken up by spare trousers and jackets when in reality you would simply roll them up and attach them to the top (or the outside) of your backpack.

The current system is very solid no complaints here.

I didn't even think about rolling clothes and things of the sort with rope. That's a fantastic idea, I personally don't carry extra clothes on me because they take up 4slots, would be really nice especially to roll up your raincoat or maybe in the future if there's harsher weather you can always carry more clothes on you

You can put loot into the pockets of stuff then put it into your inventory, negating the actual space taken up but it does feel a little "hacky". There is a bug in which you can't add Gorka pants to your inventory when they are full but empty them out then add them, then add the items to the pants and it works.

As I say I would much prefer the option to roll these things up. It's what I do when travelling. Extra boots too should be hangable from a backpack, same with things like the frying pan.

In regard to the raincoat, I tend to wear a dark t-shirt unless it rains or is very cold, then I swap to the raincoat. All the running about heats you up too much. So to have a simple way to do that without affecting your actual inventory would be ideal.

Yea I know what you mean about the putting things into things into other things. I use to do that but now like you said it feels like cheating and not only that it's such a hassle. Funny the frying pan tied to the backpack is actually one of the things I first thought about haha. Journey to the West anyone?

I have on SEVERAL occasions advocated for a more fleshed out inventory system that combines the realism (actual volume and weight of items) of the arma 2 system WITH the user friendly version one we have now. I often use the words "arbitrary", and "bullshit" when describing the current system (but I DO always mention how user friendly it is. Gotta give credit where its do..), citing the example that nobody would even TRY to carry a 5.56mm US Military ammo can in their jeans pocket.

yeah, you could CRAM it into the space between your waist and the waistband, but running or even walking with it like that would be EXTREMELY uncomfortable. YEAH, you COULD tie it to your belt, but walking or running with it dangling and flopping about, smashing into your leg, and unbalancing you with the weight of it (if full), while constantly trying to pull your pants down, would be uncomfortable AND annoying. AND either way, you would STILL have 4 individual pockets, but they are somehow full now. So I can only assume that all pants in this game must therefore split the space-time continuum so that the ammo can divides into four equal, pocket sized pieces until needed, at which point it answers it's summons by re-merging into your hand.

Pistols? I can EASILY fit a Sig Sauer 2022 Pro Series 9mm into any of the four pockets, leaving 3 more still available.

So yeah. Arbitrary. Bullshit. Unrealistic. Hopefully to be tweaked to represent dimensions, weight, AND volume realistically.

But DAMN is it user friendly!

Would make hold-out weapons like the derringer or combat knife more interesting.
