Super high ping (400+)

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Starting about 2 weeks ago, I started getting crashes on failing to join games, and when exiting games that connected successfully.

So in an attempt to resolve these crashes, I uninstalled completely DayZ & Steam using Revo Uninstaller to catch any leftover registry entries. I also did a reg scan with CCleaner, and removed any errors relating to Steam and/or DayZ.

I again also made sure to delete any residual folders/files left over in the default "program files", "appdata", and "My Documents/DayZ" locations manually.

Here is my current issue;

While trying to join a game, at the "Wait for host" screen my ping keeps rising to the point of being kicked. My ping shows as 0 to begin like normal, but steadily increases to 400+ ping. It even goes as high as 2000+ on occasion.

This has kept me from playing the game in over 10 days now.

My OS is Windows 8.1 64bit.

My speedtest can be found here = LINK.

The last server I tried to join, but got kicked before even finished character loading, I pinged via "http://www.whoisxy.com/" and received these results.

PING response from the server 8.6.77.119

BTW - Steam auto-detects Pittsburgh, PA as my closest hub.

Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this?

Check to see if your antivirus is loaded. Most of us hardcore gamers turn those features off when playing.

Just saying.

I don't believe it is your connection, but you could unplug the router and modem for 3+ minutes and refresh it.

Most of the time someone is getting 400+ ping it is on their end. Nobody else is getting this type of problem that I know of, unless its DSL or on wireless connections.

1. My firewall has the proper permissions for the games I play. That's how I've played this game in the past without issues.

2. My internet is a 4G LTE cellular modem with very limited router capabilities. It's actually effected by the game's net code DDOS modem crashing issue, so I had to use the Steam caferate method to 'sometimes' avoid that.

3. This issue only effects this game. The game nor battle eye has been updated since I last successfully (normally) played the game. If it is on my end, it's related to this game specifically. That is why I asked here. If this is a bug instead of a standard configuration troubleshooting, it would sure be nice to have a debug mode handy (hint, hint devs).

Besides, I even pinged the last tried connecting server manually, and got a normal response.

lastMPServer="198.144.183.50:2702";lastMPServerName="Ontario Gaming - Resets once a day!";

FYI - I did try this server connect, and manual ping, with my firewall completely disabled.

Just a quick check back in...

I decided to go ahead and re-install Windows entirely to see if that would fix the issue. I wanted to reinstall Win 8 in UEFI mode anyways...

Well... IT WORKED.

Considering that I used the same backup of DayZ that I had made before I started having problems, I would say the issue lied neither with the DayZ game files themselves nor the Steam cloud synced files relating to the game. Since I'll never know what happened now, I could only purely speculate that it was something relating to Battle-eye, or that my network configuration had gotten screwed up somehow.

Anyways, there it is.

4G LTE cellular modem

that's your problem. Brother also had this issue playing even Everquest with me. Couldn't run 2 accounts and barely ran 1. Its crap for many people.

wish they didn't lie, is it rogers, or bell?

sounds like your very close to me bro... I live in London.

Your welcome to hookup with us anytime... look at ClanZ under servers.. have to remote in with IP until they fix it for us.

would be happy to have more Ontario players :)
