Apollo'sFire 31 Posted December 30, 2014 I've been doing some reading online, and I **think** I understand how it all works as far as character movement to and from servers in a hive versus public. My question pertains to loot distribution over a private server and/or within the hive? I've seen posts about people not being able to find simple things like canned food, and the one server I played on that was private I couldn't find any loot aside from a pair of gloves, granted I didn't play long on that server because I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to find anything to survive. As far as admin control, what are the advantages with owning a private server (as of .52) and how can we accurately ban somebody if we haven't been given more tools?
acdc_bag 32 Posted December 30, 2014 If a private server is set to persistent the loot will be shit. Unless they're full all the time the coast never respawns items.
odin_lowe 3686 Posted December 30, 2014 It's not related to the private hive or the public hive, it's all about persistence. If the server as persistence enabled, loot "respawn" if all the items in a certain area have been removed. In some cases, this never tick in as there's still some items left behind, making new loot not respawn at all. In other times, because of the same loot respawn mechanic you can stumble upon immense loot in some areas. This is commonly called "Christmas loot". On persistence disabled servers, loot respawn every server restart. Private hives are separated from the public hive, so it only means your character is bound to the private server you are on.
Apollo'sFire 31 Posted December 30, 2014 So the loot doesn't distribute itself over "x" amount of servers within the hive? It's safe to assume then that private shards, the majority of them have persistence enabled?

Eventually, when persistence works as intended, and the central loot economy gets balanced and is fully functional, I don't think we'll have any "persistence disabled" servers anymore.
