george_smiley 26 Posted December 21, 2014 I have tried making fires to warm up on a ton of servers and they just seem to be broken now, is this happening for anyone else? my face is melting but yet im still shaking and cold...I actually had made a fire and it worked. I was soaked and it took me from soaked to wet to damp to warmed up all in about 10 minutes or so
ruax 32 Posted December 21, 2014 Me and friends were next to a fire for almost half an hour we never got ''hot'' 2-5 minutes after we left the fire my character got cold and started shaking :(
zSmile 4 Posted December 21, 2014 maybe they changed the heating up timer because before by the time you finished lighting the fire you were already hot in previous patches

solodude23 649 Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) I have tried making fires to warm up on a ton of servers and they just seem to be broken now, is this happening for anyone else? my face is melting but yet im still shaking and cold...I thought the same thing at first in experimental but as it turns out they just don't work insanely fast anymore. Previously you gained the "Hot" status almost immediately and dried off very fast as well. Now it takes me about 3 or so minutes to get hot, though I wasn't paying careful attention to time. Haven't tried in stable yet though. Edited December 21, 2014 by solodude23
McWendy 675 Posted December 21, 2014 Where is the fire placed? What were you wearing beside the fire? Made several fires last night warmed up nicely. Clothes drying on the other hand doesnt seem to happen.
saamohod 45 Posted December 21, 2014 Fires are not broken, it just takes much longer to warm yourself up.
nexventor 429 Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) The heating mechanic has definitely changed since the upgrade of .51 to .52. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature In .51 it would take 1-3 minutes to go from soaking cold to hotIn .52 it now takes much much longer. I was unable to get to hot status after 30 mins sitting next to the fire. My clothes did completely dry in that time though. From soaking -> wet -> Damp and then no status. Points to note (May or may not have been tested): Take gloves off when sitting next to fireDo not have gun in hands when sitting next to fireDo not drink from ponds, lakes, streams as you get wet far to easily and then trying to remove the shaking is a nightmare. Always drink from fountains. All clothes have a heat comfort value assigned to them so you will heat up faster/slower depending on what you are wearing.Morphine does nothing to fix shaking so don't waste it but I do suspect antibiotics or pain killers might. TSVStriFe (DayZ) 13 Posted December 22, 2014 Do you really need to have a Fire Kit AND Stones to be able to make a fire? I had all the parts except the stones, but couldn't light the fire with the matches.
solodude23 649 Posted December 22, 2014 Do you really need to have a Fire Kit AND Stones to be able to make a fire? I had all the parts except the stones, but couldn't light the fire with the matches. No, as far as I know it's not even possible to add the stones yet. Did you receive any messages in the bottom left when you attempted to light it? (Rain or wind can interfere with starting a fire)
TSVStriFe (DayZ) 13 Posted December 22, 2014 maybe a silly/stupid question, but how do you know if there is wind?? I don't think the trees/bushes are rustling. I don't get any message btw :) I can put the matches inside one of the 5 slots of the firekit, but nothing happens.
DeatHTaX 1217 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) According to recent information from the Devs, the fires aren't broken. They're just getting DDOSd. Edited December 22, 2014 by DeatHTaX

This, however, hasn't happened to me in several months so I'm not even sure if it's still a thing. In order to light a fire you first need to put the matches in your hand and point it at the fire. The "Ignite" option should pop up and you then hit the action key. Make sure you first add stick or logs to the fireplace kit.
TSVStriFe (DayZ) 13 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) Derp! the most easiest and standard thing I forgot sighs I'm such a simpleton sometimes haha and yes you can get stones. Find a pickaxe and some rocks/mountains and you can get stones that way. Also the pickaxe is another weapon next to the Firefighter Axe who 2-hit kill zombies :) Edited December 22, 2014 by TSVStriFe
