MAnU_11197 7 Posted December 14, 2014 Last year, I was very happy, because the DayZ Standalone (Alpha) was finally released. I didn´t play the Mod, but I was already a fan, watching videos of it and sometimes trying it when I visited a mate. Many bought this game, like me, right at release. And I´m sure a lot of them don´t play this game any more. It was not - and still is not - as good as the Mod, there is still a lot missing, but it is only the Alpha and I´m happy they made it an early access game. At first, I was really disappointed. There were no patches to bring new items and when there was one, it brought or fixed things that were not very important for me as a player at that moment of the development of DayZ, but I´m sure the programmers had good reasons for doing that. Well, as development went into the wrong direction, DayZ became worse and in the summer, I finally stopped playing it, because the way they made the zombies was completely unplayable for me and my friends. After 2 or 3 months, I thought, I could try DayZ again. There were some patches in that period of time, but I just downloaded them and didn´t care. I was surprised: the zombies were not that annoying any more, bugs were fixed and reading the weekly reports, development went now into the right direction. Now I have over 200 hours of DayZ experience (which is very much for me) and I can´t get enough of finding and exploring what the developer added. Now I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all developers, designers, programmers and whoever also works on DayZ or has to do with it. You made a great job in the last few months and I hope you will make this game better than the mod next year. Enjoy your holidays!
Survivor_Ted 269 Posted December 14, 2014 Glad to hear. Just wanted to ask though, what's better with the mod at the moment? To me both the mod and the SA have about the same content at the moment.

MAnU_11197 7 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) Glad to hear. Just wanted to ask though, what's better with the mod at the moment? To me both the mod and the SA have about the same content at the moment. For example helicopters are not in the SA yet... I have to agree, there are some things in the SA that are already better than in the Mod: the sizes of the bagpacks is more realistic, the clothes in general, stuff can be damaged or ruined, etc. Edited December 14, 2014 by MAnU_11197

From reading your post, i get the idea that you think bug fixing is not "the right direction" for development? and that only adding new features is? it takes time to get past the initial game crippling issues that dayz had, only now that they have sorted the basics, are they able to concentrate efforts on expanding the experience. Development was never going in the wrong direction, you expectation though, was.

Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted December 14, 2014 At the moment, it's smaller functionality and streamlining that provide my preference of DayZ Standerrone Alpher over the mod. While the mod has more content, it's simply a MASSIVE fucking port of models from ArmA 2 (I can almost smell the tears of the mod hipsters), and everything feels janky. 600 hours in and Standalone has become my favorite game ever. CJ_14 105 Posted December 15, 2014 I like both the mod and the game. I enjoy them both and I really hope to see all the things from the mod into the game (like helicopters and planes). But for now we got plenty to do in Chernarus+
