Wasted 3 weeks on SA / going back to MOD?

Recommended Posts

Well- My first time playing Dayz was on the mod about a year ago- I played for a few weeks and then got SA.

SA was VERY buggy and unoptimised.... I quit playing SA and the mod...

Fast foward a year to a few weeks ago.... I havnt played SA for a year so install it and expected it to be much better....

Still very buggy and unoptimized.

I give it a chance and dump a huge amount of time finding 3 tents, weapons, ammo, etc...

Setup a camp yada yada yada

Log in today and the server was wiped with all my stuff. What a waste of time.

OK- so Im here cause im thinking about trying the mod again.

Has anyone here tried SA and do you feel the mod is still better?

I have arma2, arrowhead, and arrowhead beta (says obsolete)

What else do I need to get the mod running and why does the beta file say obsolete? I thought I remembered needing it when playing the mod

The mod has more things and is less buggy, I'll give you that. You should of read about tents or done a bit of researching to catch up with the latest do's and don'ts of the Standalone version. Currently, tents are NOT advised. Because of their weekly swipes. But their weekly swipes are only on Wednesdays, and before you mess with tents there are a few things you should know about setting up camps.

1. They HAVE to be on a persistent server, otherwise they despawn after a server restart.

2. Have a good hiding place, your tent I can GARANTEE was found by another player, no matter how well had you hid it, which brings me to my next tip.

3. Place your tents on very low pop/ unused servers. That way you have a greater chance of some other player not stumbling upon your tents.

Even with listing all the things above, tents still aren't recommended, because the only reason people would use them are for stockpiling, but if they were swiped every Wednesday , then there really is no point to owning a tent.

I believe your Standalone experience would've been much more pleasurable if you hadn't been worrying about setting up a camp with a tent.

What I do in DayZ is snipe and watch, I get on a hill overlooking a popular town like berizino or electro, and just chill out. If someone comes walking by I might shoot them or I might not,. I get quite a rush from doing this, and all I really need is ammo and food and a simple med-kit with epi-pens, morphine, and such, and maybe a few tools and stuff like a rangefinder. You sure can do more in the mod, however the Standalone has a unique feeling from it that I have yet to receive from playing the mod.

It took me a long time to find a pers on server. On this server I found a stash of someones backpacks which gave me the assumption that persistence was on.

I had about 6 full backpacks stashed on this server for a week and after wed maintenance was still there.

I then lost this server and couldnt find it due to a bug in my history/favorites tabs.

I went into my config files to find my server history and found the server and a week later my bags were still there. This led me to believe the server was stable with persistence so I made runs to dubky to get tents.  I spent a long time and researched maps of traveled routes etc when picking my campsite.

The server was low pop- usually 3-4 ppl.

This server maintained persistence through wed server maintenances which is why I chose it.

The server did have a bug with loot explosions in the military base and when I noticed my camp was gone- I noticed the loot explosion spawning was fixed so it was a server wipe.

I had bags upon bags of loot stashed throughout the map and area and it was all gone - not just my campsite so I guarantee it wasnt looted. I wish it was as then someone at least would of got use out of my time

Hi,

i went back to the dayZ vanilla (the mod that is) after the 1.8.2 patch and i can recommend it.

I have played for about a week now and the PVE part is fantastic.

Be warned though the game is pretty hard. To spawn is not a joy right now (which is very good).

Loot feels better balanced (fewer loot), Zs are plentifull and hit fast and hard.

You need to eat and drink very often. While this may sound not very "immersive" it is a good game mechanic to be always on the run to loot common stuff and not the next NVGs.

On my prio list right now are antics/morphium and matches and stuff like that much higher then M4SD or such.

There are some surprises (if you do not read all the changelogs) like matches have only 5 uses and are not as common as i hoped. 5! That is very few so you need to plan when to cook.

Overall the game play is heavy on the surviving side right now.

Problem could be the servers. Not too many real vanilla servers left and it looks like the hive will never come back.

You can still find some nice servers but if you like lowpop it might be a challenge to find one all the time.

Give it a try and you may be entertained.
