Outlawled (DayZ) 27 Posted July 1, 2012 So, I was running in the woods, right? Trying to get to my friend who needed morphine.I came across these two guys who were coming in my direction. They didn't notice me at first, so I had the upper hand.Unfortunately, my instinct was not to shoot, but to live and let live. And, because I was under the impression that direct communication wasn't working, I decided to turn and run the other direction. I literally took the high road as I went toward a dirt road up the hill.Boy, was I wrong to do that. Dead wrong, you might say...if you're retarded.I got about 15 feet before they opened fire. Shot me in the back.I realize that this shit happens to everyone and none of you care and you've all probably had much worse experiences, but...it's just...this game punishes you for not being an asshole. It's almost too realistic in that regard. When I started writing this thread, I was angry that some assholes killed me in a video game. Now, as I'm finishing writing it, I'm just sad that assholes exist. Or...I dunno, maybe sadness isn't the best word to describe this feeling...It's that feeling you get when you lose your faith in humanity. It only lasts until you watch an episode of Community or get a blow job, and then you forget all about the fact that humanity is such an awful thing, but still...this feeling sucks ass.So, I dunno. Maybe I should get a diary for my gay thoughts. I'm sorry you accidentally clicked on this.
brianrmg 42 Posted July 1, 2012 OMG - I am sorry man. You need to roll in a pack, eff this solo lone wolf shit - come hop on our vent tomorrow and see if you mesh well. I just lost all my backback medical supplies and the FN FAL i snagged and the m4a3 to a guy camping the field for someone like me crouch through it and snipe me with his silenced pos... But, that happens to me daily in my line of work.. i die to help you survive!Thank goodness for tents and a bad ass task force that replenishes it constantly just for that reason.I hate to say it - but shoot or be shot is the name of this game. And that's why I play unlike the other 99 percent - I am the 1 percent.
DaveAzoicer (DayZ) 135 Posted July 1, 2012 Dont worry, some time soon there will hopefully be some subtle disadvantage of being a Bandit. I heard that they will soon be wearing a "mask" over their face if you go Bandit.
FlashHawk4 44 Posted July 1, 2012 Usually I don't open fire, and I'm in the one percent as well. But this one time, I was scavenging in Balota near the airfield...I walked out of the tent, and found myself face t face with another player who had just done the same. If he hadn't had his revolver pointed directly at me, I'd have given him a chance, and called friendly. But it was, and at ten feet it was the quick and the dead. One point six seconds and twelve rounds of 5.45 later, I had cut him down, and the only thing I remember was making the decision to shoot.Whoever you were (I didn't get the name) I'm sorry. You're the closest thing I've ever had to a Day Z traumatic experience. Moral of the story, there's a percentage of players like me whose rules of engagement vary. For me, it's all about distance and his point of aim. If either of those two are too close for comfort, for lack of a less hackneyed cliché, I shoot first and ask questions later. Keep that in mind. If you're typing especially, don't point guns at people. Not only does it violate Jeff Cooper's rules, it also makes us revert to our training and drop you then and there.
