Time to reduce run speed with vehicles inbound?

Recommended Posts

They really should adopt the arma 3 system and then tweak it according to what the devs want.

The arma 3 system believe it or not is pretty darn accurate.

We should definetly run depending on how much we are carrying.

Even that speed is kinda crazy.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't that a 5:27 mile?

The vast vast majority of the population will never even get close to running that fast for any long amount of time let alone hungry sick survivors.

8 to 10 minute miles seems far more realistic especially when weight and equipment is taken into account

You have to balance realism vs enjoyment factor.  It seems like you always push for the 100% realism factor which would be silly.

I did. If I were going for pure realism I would have suggested 12 mph + times due to all the gear you carry.

What I suggested originality would be authentic while remaining fun.

Stamina is absolutely vital.

it also needs to be realistic too.

However unlike arma 3 there is no situation where you are carrying 100 kilos due to plate carriers and missile launchers so stamina will not feel as bad.

Then again there is always the option to not carry every thing you see.

Stamina is absolutely vital.  I did a test.  Found a sign that said 3 km to Krastnostav.  It took me just over 8 mins to get there which averages about 22.5 km/h.  Which is about average running speed but to be able to sustain that is fairly absurd unless you are a trained athlete.   Character movement needs tuning.  It feels like we're side stepping at almost the same speed which and being able to turn and sprint instantly is terrible.  Also adding momentum from added weight would be good as well.

I'd actually like being able to play an overweight caracter, and have shit stamina. I'm a wee bit fat in real life, so why not have that penalty in game? I'd be forced to fight zombies, cause running from them ain't gonna happen. I can sprint pretty fast for like 20 seconds, but then i'm spent.

Bikes are where it's at. Not sure about other countries, but everyone here has at least one bike. They're cheap and easely maintainable. Getting around on those would still be fast, but requires much less stamina. I don't even know why they didn't add those before cars. Unless they did add them?

1. Agreed

2. Not needed since everyone almost universally wants the run speed drastically reduced and stamina added.

Teleporters and jump pads.  Also fix the speed of zooming in, it's too hard to quick scope.

In all seriousness tho, now is the time to reduce the run speed before people get too used to it, which they already are.

Speed is fine, relative to the map distances. Find good anti cheat clients and get the keyboard short cuts working in game and everything else might be able to be adjusted.

Its already cumbersome to hit keys and actually work.

So much more should be fixed then worrying about speed reductions.

Kind of how the movement was before they made it into a twitch shooter? Weapons, weight, fatigue, sickness, being wet, being cold, starving, overfed, footwear should all effect how our characters move in the game and is something I really hope the look into.

There is nothing twitch about this game.

i think that each kind of shoe could have little perks. e.g.

hiking boots: faster up hills

jogging shoes: faster on flat terrain

etc.

What is there to fix? It's just a placeholder animation before they add a scramble.

It has nothing to do with the animation. it's the speed. the fact that you walk up certain inclines is absolutely ridiculous as they aren't steep at all. Not to mention that zombies happily sprint up said incline(but that s, hopefully, temporary)

Yeah, I'll make it clear that regardless of vehicles the run speed should be decreased.  The reason it was increased was due to lack of vehicles, which is why I think it's relevant to the discussion of toning it back down.  However, this should not be based around access to vehicles.  Some players, even with vehicles implemented and especially when they are made to be rare, will not always have a vehicle.  So everyone needs to get used to a slower run speed regardless.

This is why I think it was a very poor decision by the devs to begin with to increase it.  It's a lot more difficult to take something away from people than to give it to them, and a lot of people aren't going to like it when it changes.

I'm not opposed to waiting until vehicles are actually in, like Griefslicer suggest.  My personal opinion is to just get it over with though.

Just jog instead of sprinting.  You get it over with and adapt for yourself without penalizing everyone else.  Problem solved.

I think there is still a good balance of fun and realism.  Weather and temperature are good steps towards forcing survival decisions, and I think sore feet could be a good way to limit long range sprinting depending on shoe type/condition, rather than a stamina bar or encumbrance.  It's too early to be calling for speed reduction currently, we still have a year before Beta even comes around, slow your roll.

An actual stamina system would benefit the game much more than simply reducing run speed.

Why wait?

Faster the better I say.

If anything it should have been slowed and tweaked much earlier

How so? Is this because slowing the running speed is "more realistic"? What is the reasoning behind wanting a slower running speed?

If it's not implemented, it's not REALLY fixed, is it?
