Wait for Host among other things.

Recommended Posts

Let me start off by saying I am about fed up with the Dayz Mod and how ridiculously complicated it is to do anything.

PlaywithSix, DayZCommander, and Steam - all offering what seem to be the same product, but how should I know - each one is several gigabytes to download so there's no way I'm waiting for each one  so I can test them all.

It seems that every single tutorial out there has a slightly different way of doing what SHOULD be a very straight forward task. Each one uses one of the three above, but you often times don't know which until you start reading the tutorial. Most of them are outdated, I haven't found a single PlaywithSix tutorial that uses the latest GUI. The new Stand Alone version isn't helping either, only supplying even MORE variation in the ways you could install the game.

All I want to do is start from scratch, download the DayZ Mod, and join a server.

A couple years ago I downloaded Steam and bought Arma II and Arma II Operation Arrowhead. I then downloaded PlaywithSix and started playing on a server.

A couple months later I deleted both pieces of software as well as *some* of the game data.

Today I am attempting to reinstall it and play once more. Lets take a look at a step by step of whats been done. Keep in mind this was all following tutorials online for how to supposedly fix one issue after another.

1. Install Steam

2. Download Arma II and Arma II Operation Arrowhead by going to "Library" and clicking "Install"
3. Download the latest version of PlaywithSix

4. Click on "Games", go to "Installed", and select "Arma II Combined Operations"
5. Go to "Mods" and select "Original DayZ Zombie RPG - @DayZ" made by the dayzdevteam

6. Go to "Servers" and attempt to navigate this section

7. Select a server and hit "Install" where the join button should be.

8. Finally click the play button that has appeared

A message appeared saying that BattlEye could not be started or something like that.

1. Go to battleye.com

2. Download "BE Client for Windows (32-bit) - v1.223"
3. Put it in the Expansion > BattlEye folder for Operation Arrowhead.

So at this point I tried joining it again and I was stuck at "wait for host". Another server I tried actually got the chat started in the lower left corner but lost connection twice. So I gave up on that server. I look up issues with "wait for host" and tried a couple solutions.

1. Download "ARMA2_OA_Build_94876.zip" file

2. Run program within

3. Get error message that the installed version is newer than the beta version

I read that some files need to be deleted in order for this to work. The tutorial DID say I was supposed to moving to a LOWER build number not a higher one. Which I am.

1. Delete several files that I will not name for the sake of time.

2. Try again.

3. Same error message

4. Put files back in respective folders

I deleted 4 files - two were put back so there is nothing to worry about. The other two were files in the BattlEye folder. Now this intrigues me. I had lost them and tried to get them back off the internet, but nobody mentioned them anywhere. Every screenshot of the folder on google images doesn't show them. What it DOES show is a BattlEyeUninstall file or something like that. I did not have any uninstall files. I still do not. I only have BEClient and BEServer.

1. Attempt to join the server one more time.

2. Stuck waiting an hour for it to download "2 mods" - neither of which I know the name of nor did I tell it to download.

I'm completely lost to the point where I'm not even sure where I am in this post of what I've left out. I do not know what to do.

Every server I see, every *ing single server I see, has some kind of issue. Not a single one has a ping, most are empty, thousands have the wrong version, and the ones that are left require another Mod on top of another Mod.

I just want to join a simple vanilla server (maybe more vehicles) and play. Thats it!

Yes don't follow any tutorial dated before August 2014. Never use dayzcommander and never use any beta patch. I think that you have bad luck to get Battleye working on your PC and it's not your fault, BE had some problems last week.

The problem is we don't have administration rights in the different sites (Steam, YouTube...) where players get their tutorial in order to delete them.

I think you could try the procedure there: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/214775-dayz-loading-error/#entry2156589

Umm hard to follow you there.

Here's what I did:

1) Install Steam - download and install ArmA2 - start it once - download and install Operation Arrowhead - start it once - download and install DayZ Mod - start it once.

2) Install the BE Service for Operation Arrowhead from battleye.com

3) Install DayZ Commander, go to the "install/update" page and update wherever it tells you to update something. Also install the mods you like

4) Look for any server and check the two options to show only compatible server, doubleclick, play

That's just what I personally did. You can also stop after step 2, start DayZ Mod from within steam and use the ingame server browser. I never did so I cannot guarantee that it works.

I honestly don't know what should be wrong with using a 3rd party server browser or using the beta patches. I have yet to see negative effects of doing so. I can join every server with no issues at all.

edit: I did some googleing and found out DayZcommander stopped working for some people with some ArmA patch it seems.

I always keep everything up to date in Steam and in the Commander and it worked fine this tuesday.

So to be sure you might go to HERE -> http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/205545-dayz-commander-not-working-read-this-dayz-launcher-the-new-alternative/

Still, you most likely have to install DayZ Mod in Steam what you did not describe in your post.

Don't use dayzcommander! It's not compatible with Steam.

You don't need to install Battleye manually.

Yeah, it was difficult to explain it when I was so confused.

So I found out that I had old Arma II files from 2013 and deleted them. I then used steam to reinstall the game, which I am ASSUMING will download the updated version.

When I launch DayZ it says "Connection Failed" when I try to play on multiplayer now. Not sure why. Browsing some of the links in the replies above I decided to try and Install DayZ from Steam.

I deleted any @DayZ files I found on the computer so hopfully this is being done correctly. I'm concerned that I may not be deleting or installing all the files I need...

Things are still pretty confusing, when I launch Operation Arrowhead and go to "Expansions" it lists 2 different DayZ Mods as well as A Namalsk version. PlayWith Six isn't listing ANY servers now, refresh only brings up a new list of 0/0 servers.
