All Items/Gear Gone... WTF ?

Recommended Posts

OK been playing quite a bit since .50 released and was enjoying it. Found a decent bag, plenty of food, some nice gear etc. So grabbed my trusty compass and headed off into parts of the map I'd never thought of exploring before.

Any way needed to sleep (work and other boring stuff beckoned) so found what I though was a nice safe/secluded spot and logged out.

Logged in again today (same server) and WTF... my character has been set back to default ! ! !

Every single item I'd found had been removed and now I'm going to have to start from scratch. Am I missing something here... I though this wasn't supposed to happen?

???

It happens sometimes.

Lost two chars yesterday...it happens.

My advice: Try not to be the first to join empty servers. They probably just restarted and this bug usually occurs if you log into a server before it connects to the database, so it creates a new character.

If you do find yourself with a fresh character, try Alt+F4 as quick as you can, restart DayZ and join a different server, if you're lucky the server hasn't saved the new char on the database.

I only keep joining the servers I have on my personal favorites (ingame) or those that others join to conduct operations and whatnot. Because in those cases I know my characters will be save(d), and so far it worked every time.

Only exception: Joining right after a restart. The possibility exists that it can occur randomly regardless, with a small chance. But if so, then it should be rare.

Either somehow you got killed as your character was despawning when you logged off, or something technical had happened and the server hadn't caught up with the database and stuff. Just make sure you are not the first to join a server. And make sure you join a official or semi-official server.

If you join a server and as you are loading in you know you are not where you were or you dont have items immediately log off the server. Your character was not pulled from the database server and a new one was created, if you log off quickly the default will not overwrite your character.

The first thing I do when logging in is to look at the quick inventory slots at the bottom of the screen. If my items don't show in that I logoff immediately. It can be annoying but helps keep your char

I had a "similar" thing happen.

I played for a bit over the weekend. Headed inland and found a nice, unlooted, town, (forget the name but it wasn't a real big one). Went to the hospital and found a complete red paramedics outfit. First time I found one of those so I put it on. By this time I already had a dry bag, a shotgun, fire axe, and the dry bag was pretty full with misc other gear.

I logged out in some random house or shed. Next time I logged on I still had the paramedic outfit on, I still had my axe and shotgun, but my dry bag was replaced with an empty taloon backpack. I still had some food and soda, plus a little ammo in my pockets but that was it.

No biggie I guess. Just started looting again and now I'm back in business.
