Changing between stable and experimental?

1.) (I know how to change from stable to experimental.) Can you change from experimental to stable by just unchecking the option in steam?

2.) Can you change forth and back several times between stable and experimental?

3.) Do you have four characters then? Or is the the stable 1st person character taken over to experimental 1st person? What happens when you change from experimental to stable with items that don't exist yet on stable?

And no, you can't carry over any items between the branches due to different character slots.
