xploD 12 Posted October 13, 2014 I was just thinking while I was chillin in city sniping people it would be awesome to be out in the middle of no where and actually run into people. Like chill at the top of some big huge dam that can overlook everything in the middle of the forest and just set up a tent and have friends on different lookouts and just secure the entire area and move around as a big formation. You can't really do this or you're in for hours of doing nothing, I spend 90% of my time in Elecktro just because it's one of the few places where at least a little action happens. As much as some people think it would make cities horrible and a deathfest, I think that would only be the beginning and after a while you'd see a lot of people doing different things. Especially when vehicles come out and hopefully they will upgrade the current cities and give them some more variation and not be so predictable.
StarLord (DayZ) 39 Posted October 13, 2014 I think the map is large enough to support upwards of around 150 people, and still get a great experience.

hotcakes 348 Posted October 13, 2014 There were 50/80/100 man servers in experimental .30 something. It was hilarious to play. There were hackers everywhere and a neverending stream of people in Elektro.
Grundlesmuggler 41 Posted October 13, 2014 Yeah 100+ will be great....once they put the correct amount of loot spawns BACK into the game, and add more content to the northwest part of the map. If they did that right now it would just be a cluster. Unsuccessful in the current game state IMO.
Karmaterror 982 Posted October 13, 2014 Right now it would seem like more players would be great. But those numbers with persistence and vehicles, forget camping and vehicles....that's all outa the window lol. Vehicles will probs spend 90% of there time waiting to respawn, and a tent you put up will last all of an hour. When the map does light up with cars, bikes, trucks ect I feel 30-40 gives a perfect balance of seeing other players but not all over the place. If I meet someone in every town it looses the apocalypse feel, how many people survived anyway? If 100 in a size of land like Chernarus, globally? That's not an apocalypse....just a planet wide riot :) Still bring it on....might drive the cost of a lower slot server down :D
Chamil 22 Posted October 13, 2014 God, I would love this. It's so boring now to be honest. My friend and I get completely geared up, all HYPED UP LETS KILL SOMEONE ROFFELThen we end up searching one person for hours and giving up eventually, even in completely full servers. This would be awesome.Laggy, expensive, but awesome.
ebrim 998 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) 100 might be pushing it a little for me. The 50/60 people servers I'm getting more comfortable with and definitely see the appeal but at a certain point it will become difficult, especially after we start having more capabilities for camps and barricading, to ever be in an area that actually feels remote. Not that we will ever have (I think) a Rust-level capacity for building but one of the biggest detractors from that game is that the map gets polluted with player crap very fast. Chamil 22 Posted October 13, 2014 i cant wait till we have hordes that will flush out camping assholes out in the openIf the hordes were fixed zombies, then that would be awesome. They might not quite kill the players but they'll sure waste some good ammo hehehe
rybec 339 Posted October 13, 2014 With enough people on the server I might eventually run into someone in the woods, rather than literally every interaction being in a city/town/base.
Chamil 22 Posted October 13, 2014 With enough people on the server I might eventually run into someone in the woods, rather than literally every interaction being in a city/town/base.Agreed. Can you imagine having guerilla fights instead of having to hide in a house till you get a chance,Hide behind trees, branches, hide in the grass, god that would be epic. -Gews- 7443 Posted October 13, 2014 100 seems like too many people, especially since people tend to all go to the same few areas. If they are not in a city or military base it means they are probably heading to a city or military base. But if the server handles it well I guess it could be fun, there is much to be said for a target-rich environment.
gibonez 3633 Posted October 14, 2014 Makes me wish Chenarus was an island so the spawn points would be spread out throughout the map.
stielhandgranate 480 Posted October 14, 2014 Nowhere to hide bases. Nowhere to hide vehicles. Player pop will make overall item quantity low so more people simply killing others for the off chance they have something of worth in their clothes. Give us a bigger map and less uninspired cities and copy paste towns than I can see it working. Its a post apocalyptic world. You shouldn't be encountering others every five minutes. Also I imagine the cost for renting servers would be ridiculous.

Mukaparska 55 Posted October 14, 2014 But will it make the game boring if you see people every corner? The best thing about DayZ is the feeling when you actually see someone after a long time and wonder is he friendly or not. Well, to be honest, I wish I could see someone more than twice in a week, and someone with some gear more than twice in a month.
umm_me 77 Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) sounds... *cough* fun *cough* assuming many more features, systems making survival even harder/complex and tons optimizations and ai improvements... the smallest towns having 30 zombies and the biggest maybe 200... i could see some value in a single player game. It wont have all the replay value of multiplayer of course. Edited October 14, 2014 by umm_me
pillock 850 Posted October 14, 2014 I think they need to add some more random element to the loot spawning. In my view, EVERY item should have a chance of spawning ANYWHERE (except the stuff from dynamic crash sites). Loot spawn chances would still be heavily weighted towards "appropriate" locations (military gear in military buildings, etc), but there should be a chance (however small) of finding anything anywhere. The reason for this is the fact that most people totally ignore the majority of houses/buildings - if there was always a chance of finding higher end, rarer stuff in the most out-of-the-way ordinary shacks and houses, people would use more of the map. At present, everyone runs to police stations and military sites because they KNOW they won't find the loot they want elsewhere. That's what I would change to prevent higher-population servers becoming too crowded in a limited number of locations.

Judopunch 523 Posted October 14, 2014 But It needs to have more challenge because once you are full equip, what do you do, zombie range shooting? You assume that that would even be possible. Do you not believe that survival could be a full time job? Because if you played on the first version of .50 on the experimental branch thats basically all you did when you were playing, try to not starve. And things like polluted water and dangerous animals were not even factors yet. Let alone weather and the fact that you could pick as many apples as you had patience for.
