Can't get the game to launch

I can't get the game to launch. ive tried the desktop icon and the steam menu and neither work. I click the play button or the icon it gives me the first time setup popup it says installing direct x then the dialog box goes away then nothing happens. Can anyone help?

problem has been fixed thanks to steak and potatoes I just need to work out some performance issues on my end. thank you
