PvP doesn't exist

I understand Arma 2 is a military simulator game!!! now on with what i would like to say!

This mod doesn't really have PvP in my opinion.

PvP = player vs player (meaning a player is fighting a player)

most "PvP" in this mod is player 1 shoots player 2. player 2 dies instantly and can't do anything besides respawn on the coast. (most of the time)

This just leaves player 1 laughing about how he just owned this other guy.

A full loot PvP sandbox/open world game like Dayz can not have fights that happen like this where a player doesn't even get a chance to defend himself.

So I think that Damage you can do to other players needs to be lowered This would create longer more epic fights and the fights would be more determined by skill and not "I shot first I win"

Depends on the caliber and the location. But generally a shot the head should kill you.

but that doesn't create a fun experience for the player. getting shot in the head from a sniper randomly isn't any fun.

But that's how it is in real life. Three shots of 5.56 to an unarmored person (center mass,) will either kill them due to shock, blood loss, suffocation (sucking chest wound,) or just plainly kill them. It's even less with higher caliber weapons like .45ACP, 7.62, .338 Lapua, etc.

You can't say that this isn't pvp. This is not a game that gives you "avatar" strength. Your survival is tantamount to your skill, cunning, ruthlessness, knowledge, etc.

I believe this game is, when concerning the idea of "realistic warfare," as close as it gets right now. There are minor imperfections like dupes/glitches/bugs or being conjured into existence out of thin air, but those hopefully will be resolved in time.

That is why DayZ is a simulator...think Microsoft flight simulator but for the zombie genre.

I agree with you in theory though, that there's too much "BLAM! You Are Dead." going on right now.

My personal solution is to increase functionality of melee weapons, and decrease spawn rates of guns. A gun should be an extremely valuable find. Not something that you expect to get automatically. The super powerful assault rifles and sniper rifles should be rare as shit, and should make you a total badass if you manage to find one. Everyone running around with machine guns is kind of silly in my opinion.

I also think there should be a weapon durability mechanic, so that you have to repair and maintain your guns in order to continue to use them.

Maintenance yes, durability....hell no.

You can fire 8-10k rounds from an m4 with a 1/9 twist rate, before it even begins to show signs of wear.

If not properly maintained, a weapon penalizes you with less accuracy and damage, and also has a chance to explode on you. It's realistic. Let's say for every 10% of needed maintenance, there's a 5% chance to explode due to unstable pressurization.

You're dead wrong.

PvP isn't just about the shooting.

If someone sees you before you see them and gets the first shot off, you've already lost the PvP.

Part of PvP is playing tactically, remaining aware, moving between cover, playing safely, and having a team to scout the area around you at all times. Most PvP happens before the shots are fired.

Avoiding players is PvP too. Their attempts to find and kill you versus your attempt to avoid detection and get away safely.

This game has tons of PvP. If you keep dying in 1 shot, you're probably bad at it. Work on getting better.

But these weapons have been sitting around in barns in a coastal town for who knows how long? Exposure to sea air is very caustic. I would expect many of the guns to be rusted through.

Also, we don't know how much use they saw before we found them.

you only get military grade equipment from military installations. and in most cases, these have been meticulously maintained. ill give you credit for arguing the coastal placement of some rifles would degrade them, it just makes sense. but the further you go away from the coast, the greater the loot is as well as the danger.

maybe in order to make this "maintenance suggestion" canon, rocket could include armory facilities, and logistic boxes (when we shipped our weapons to iraq, we coated them in lubricant and sealed them up in plastic then that went into giant wooden boxes.)

props on pointing out the humidity and salt content of coastal cities. hell, i was in camp lejeune for four years and i forgot about it lol

I did not know about logistic boxes. I think that making weapon durability increase the farther from the coast it is found, with weapons found in logistic boxes starting at full durability would be a good way to go. This would really encourage players to move off the coast as well. Sure, there's lots of military loot there, but it's all rusty.

Oh, and the loot found in deerstands would definitely start out with low durability. It's been sitting out in the woods.

The way this mod panders to sub 12 year old anonymous internet heroes is ridiculous.

You want a realistic zombie Apocalypse stop pandering to the 12 year olds who would be dead almost instantly and listen to the ex service guys who have played this series for years.

Okay' date=' so what? As long as everyone has access, what difference does it make? The challenge isn't supposed to lie in "getting stuff" it comes from using it effectively.

Lets ignore the mental repercussions of going through a zombie apocalypse and seeing everyone and everything you've ever known and loved torn asunder into bloody little shreds and focus instead on the specific repercussions that just happen to force people to play the game the way you want them to.

Convenient, that. How we're all supposed to "just know" how people would behave in this situation, and that just happens to coincidentally match up with exactly how you want people to play the game so you don't get shot at as often and you can have a relaxing day collecting beans and giving your buddies sloppy hand-jobs around the campfire.

There's no PvP in this game, everyone's a zombie anyway

There's just zombies that hold weapons, zombies that try and convince you they are friendly by yelling "friendly". Zombies that try to hide from you. Zombies that shout "don't shoot I'm friendly!" when you point your gun at them. Zombies that get eaten by other zombies. Zombies that eat beans. Zombies that drink water. Zombies that break into houses trying to steal loot. Zombies that shoot other zombies with guns and steal their stuff. Zombies that betray other zombies within their zombie pact.

What's all this PvP non-sense about.

Get me moar beer, I have to deal with all these damn zombies.

No everyone is not a zombie. I'm just saying it's not really PvP if there is no fight.

PvP is just that. One player versus one player. There isn't some code of ethics that defines PvP. If you get shot, and you die, you lost. A player versed you, and you were unaware. You still lost though.

I don't understand the confusion around quick gun-kills. I thought it was understood that, should you not want to get shot, you shouldn't join in on games with guns. Please correct me, as I might be very, very wrong on this.

I think body armor would be a good way to solve this. and make it common or even a loot item off of zombie cops for second chance vests and Interceptor vests from zombie soldiers. The armor would be noneffective for zombie protection, but good for PvP.

M107 to the chest would kill, hitting any limbs would probably tear them off so I'd say death makes more sense than someone bandaging it.

All that to say I hope they NEVER remove pvp from this game. The point of this game is the atmosphere, the simulation of what it would be like to (try and) live through a zombie apocalypse. I was paranoid already running in to pillage a village, only to have to face the fact that the tree line is well over 100m away and I could be halfway to the treeline only to see a small spark and then wham YOU ARE DEAD.

Without pvp, I'd have no reason to celebrate when I did make it back into the tree line, giggling like Gollum over my hard-won box of matches.

Well said. I don't engage other players (except when they shoot at me first), but yet I am still playing against other players in trying to avoid being shot by them.

Also, I don't think weapon damage should be nerfed. Much as I hate being shot, turning the game into just another shooter where people run around flinging thousands of rounds at each other would make it ... just another shooter.

No offense, OP, but if you want gunfights, go play something else.
