Fortification/barricades/bases vs. a hole in the ground

Recommended Posts

I want to suggest a new attempt to save your loot.

How about being able to dig a hole to hide stuff like weapons?

That way we don't have to bother with indestructable bases or lockpicking.

Bases and barricaded buildings are still fine, but if we would be able to hide stuff from bandits we would use bases and barricades only to have a temporary safe place to rest, instead of just sitting there all day long and turning the game into another military simulator with zombies.

A hole in the ground is, right now, the best way to actually camoflage our stuff (since vegetation does not render at a certain distance). Also it does not have to be an actual hole (because right now we can not dig and change the landscape) but for example it can be a place in a forest where we can go to a certain spot and get a loot option.

yay or nay?

Nay, whilst not a bad idea/suggestion overall it would cause a metric shit ton of issues.

how come?

i would suggest that the actual "hole" will be represented by a simple stick that actually gives you a loot option. The stick would work as a marker and renders at the same distance as vegetation.

they have things called stashes in the mod and they come in 2 sizes small and large they have camouflage I think they would work or something like it they were and are hard to spot if hidden well.

the problem is that these stashes will still be spotted by anyone further away than vegetation render distance. Even camo nets wont help

That would be more reasonable to an extent my first impression was the ability to actually dig visible holes into the ground on the map.  With that said you would have to make the requirements to create one as hard if not harder than a tent so you are not having players bomb 50,000 holes in one hour to dump toilet paper and one soda into them crashing the server.

A physical hole is not possible (as of now, don't know how the new engine modules will take it) since the map is preloaded and static. It's not like Battlefield where the shape of the landscape is able to be altered on the fly.

I want caches too but I don't think it should be as simple as digging a whole. Here is my comment from the item suggestion thread that explains how I think they should work.

Tool boxes to make Caches with.

Cahces would require a toolbox, you could get different size boxes, ones large enough to fit rifles would be very rare and heavy (imagine a military foot locker, a little smaller than that) You would most likey need a vehicle to transport these long distances, smaller toolboxes would fit pistols (maybe a sawn off), food, ammo, a knife, a map, those kind of things (not much of it) and would be rare. You would bury a toolbox in the ground and leave some form of marking or maybe you could even mark your map where they are, once you've made the cache you could activate it and select "mark map" or something like that. Caches could be dug up and reused.

These tool boxes would require a key to open. If you didn't have a key and wanted to open one you would destroy the tool box (and so the cache) in the process of opening it.
