The DayZ Trade Center - Status report 2

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody, I'd like to share with you an ongoing project of mine. It is called the DayZ Trade Center and basically it is a web application that lets you easily trade Dayz items in a secure and trusted way. Users are assigned a reputation score and can exchange items on the market. At the end of each transaction they are requested to give a feedback that contributes to build up their reputation. The value is linked to the Steam account, so it is not possible to register fake accounts in order to boost the reputation.

You can find further details about the project here (wp.me/p50jzK-dc), including the detailed roadmap and the initial requirements.

The project is completely open-source, so those of you who are interested can look at the code on Github and contribute to the actual development.

That being said, feel free to comment here or join the discussion on Reddit (redd.it/2i9ky8). Have a nice day! Bye!

Glad you liked it! Right now I'm focused towards the first release, but then I'd like to extend the app including the possibility of having multiple "characters" (one for each hive) and also linking multiple Steam accounts together, so that you can create real "trade companies" with your friends. As a developer, instead, I'm excited to provide data that could be used to tweak the loot economy itself (I've talked about that in previous episodes). For instance, they could understand that after the introduction of a certain game mechanics (who said vehicles??) tools can become more valuable than guns. In particular they could know that a simple "wrench" is valued like "3 mosin", etc. Cool!

Indeed! The key aspect here is to go in the completely opposite direction of the game itself. DayZ is a sandbox, and so it needs to be kinda "neutral", meaning that it should not favor any type of behavior. It's up to the players to behave in a good or in a "bad" way. On the contrary, here we should strive to promote a certain positive attitude, and that should be done using incentives for players. For instance, by setting up a few "gamification" mechanics that should incentivize trust (I'm thinking about special badges, achievements, etc.) and by enabling certain features only for those who have proven to be reliable. As an example, the "protectors" feature should be accessible only for "top" players. The fear of losing those privileges should do the trick. In fact, the reputation metric should reveal if you had bad behaviors in the past.

This comment has just moved the "Analytics" page (and related stuff) up a lot of places in my personal task list. How cool could it be to look at your profile (or somone else's) and read "Trusted dealer of woodsman equipment. He/she is in the top 5% of all traders" ?! :)

Hello everybody, the latest status report of the Dayz Trade Center project is out (wp.me/p50jzK-fW).

For the new readers, the project is aimed at providing the DayZ community with a reliable and engaging tool to trade game items.

The acquired data is then exposed for others to use.

In particular, developers can tweak the central loot economy system based on how people perceive and react to the central loot economy.

At the same time it let you discovery interesting things about the central loot economy itself through charts and statistics.

This week's episode is all about data and security. Have a read and then join the discussion!

FYI the alpha-testing phase is getting near. First it will be a closed test so a limited number of users will be selected.

I'm thinking about one hundred users, so if you're up to, let me know in the comments or join the discussion on Reddit redd.it/2ixs3d :)
