Why are there still awkward animations that cannot be canceled?

Recommended Posts

Would be nice if cancel action was a simple case of pressing W,A,S or D, move away= action cancelled.

So instead of expecting a professional game company to produce tight controls that respond right away and thus allow the interruption/cancellation of a current movement if the player decides to do so..... we should just plan ahead of time when making a decision to make a movement?   That's your answer to this?   Seriously?

If I hit a button, my damn player should respond.   We should have not have to hope for the freaking best when we hit a button that our character will respond.   And we should not have to accept that after 10 months of hardcore development that controls are so bad that we can't even interrupt/cancel any movement because the controls are so sloppy and broken.

This is unacceptable and raises serious concerns for the completion of the game.  Why do we have these serious problems with controls combined with the fact that they have officially made a publicly made policy to ignore hacking?   We can't even make threads about hacking because they ignore this as much as bad controls.

ppl talk about realism all the time here,, even about pooping.. how fast would you be able to stop bandaging yourself and put the bandage back in your pocket irl? idk haha

Maybe when they add/fix so you can stop the animation instantly you also drop the item you currently use (e.g. the can of food or bandage for instance) on the ground. I would at least have done that irl i bet.

Game's still got over a year and a half of development left before actual release

What are you basing that number on? I've seen people flinging timelines around a lot lately without much proof of the pace of development, ultimate goals of the dev team, etc.

That seems like a good idea, but I would want some sort of safety built-in so I wasn't always accidentally canceling actions. For example: you need to double-tap one of those keys instead of just a single tap.

One of the dev streams, in which Hicks stated it was a 2-3 year development cycle.  I think it may be on his twitter as well.

Oh here's a crappy article with it

http://venturebeat.com/2014/09/10/dayz-still-has-two-years-of-development-ahead/

“DayZ is 11 months into principle [sic] development on what should be a three-year standard development cycle,” said Hicks, indicating just how far the development team still has to go.

Hicks went on to say that the team was trying to use Early Access to speed up the process by 6 or even 12 months, but that this was a “lofty goal.”

All I can tell you is that you are quite right to be unhappy about the whole situation but you will be overwhelmed by fanboys that will fanatically defend everything that the devs do. There's no point in talking to these people.

No. Go away we dont want you.

The devs main focus as outlined many times currently is security.

The controls are being worked on and have changed several times in the last few patches, its mostly behind the scenes work.

You need to educate yourself and stop talking out of your ass.

general if your sprinting forwards when you draw your weapon you continue moving as you draw.

I'm talking out of "MY" ass?    You say that the reason controls are terribly broken is because the Devs are being told to focus on security.... Focus on security?   DayZ has been Hack-A-PALOOZA city since 2012.   And the hacking actually seems to have increased in number since launching the alpha.

So what do you mean they are focusing on security?

So why don't you want me here?   Because I ask good questions like why are these controls so bad?

"The controls are being worked on for the last several patches"

"security is one of the main focuses of the team currently"

These are the answers to your questions.

It takes months to make these changes. This is an Alpha and its running better then some released games. It won't be finished for another couple of years. If this is not acceptable to you please come back then. It was made abundantly clear that this game is unfinished and under development. Complaining is not helpful, nor is it valuable feedback. Especially if is uninformed.

Alpha. Don't worry. Everything is justified with that word. Since December 2013. No issue ever leaves Alpha status. Everything is held equally on that status.

My 2 favorites are:

  1. Throw something - get stuck standing there for up to 30 seconds.
  2. Ignite your camp fire - get stuck crouching over it for around 30 seconds and get burned so bad your vision is all fubar.

I'm sure they'll get worked out eventually (it is only alpha stage of development after all) - but until then, I just consider it extra challenge. If the devs want to work miracles - fix the bugs in my wife of yelling at me BEFORE I do something wrong, she's so glitchy and I can't even mute her. Damnit Bohemia fix her!

I wait now 6 and a half months so that they fixed/added "cancel function" from drinking from ponds/wells.
