Standalone - Lag in Cities

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm getting insane lag spikes when moving around in cities, the bigger the city the more lag. So a good example could be Novodmitrovsk, where the game is borderline unplayable. If I look down or up, the lags go away, so I'm 100% sure it has something to do with loading the scenery. The amount of players on the server does not affect this issue, as I get the same lag on 40/40 servers and 1/40 servers.

I have the following hardware setup:

- CPU: Intel i7 5930k (also same issue with 3930K on 4.6GHz)
- RAM: 4x 4GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 @ 2800MHz
- GPU(1): EVGA GTX780 SC ACX
- GPU(2): EVGA GTX780 SC ACX
- Motherboard: Asus Rampage V Extreme X99 Chipset
- PSU: Corsair AX1200i Platinum
- SSD(1): OCZ Vertex 4 256GB (OS installed here)
- SSD(2): OCZ Vertex 4 256GB (Game installed here, via Steam)
- Monitor(1): Asus VG248QE 144hz 1080p
- Monitor(2): BenQ 2410t 120hz 1080p
- OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64

I've also tried the following, which has not fixed anything:

- Setting launch options to: -nosplash -noPause -cpuCount=6 -maxMem=16384 -exThreads=11 -malloc=system

- Force SLI via Nvidia Inspector, as described here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=205916418

- Change the DayZ.cfg in My Documents to: refresh=144;, GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;, GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1,  vsync=0;

- Change the "Profilename".cfg in My Documents to: sceneComplexity=100000; viewDistance=1500;

- Using Nvidia Experience optimized settings

- Force Nvidia Control Center, under DayZ.exe, to set "Power Management" to "Prefer Maximum Performance"

Any suggestions?  :)

What is your FPS in cities and what graphics settings are you running?

Significantly lower frame rates in these areas is normal unfortunately.

no one needs to know wat mouse you use or headphones ahhaaaa

I have all my hardware listed on another site, so I just copy/pasted that list. I know mouses and external accessories probably aren't affecting this issue..

Thanks for the constructive help by the way..

It was also what I feared. :( Anyway, I'll post up some fps numbers and screenshots of the graphics settings when I get back home.

However, I have been fiddling around with the in-game graphics quite a while, not really affecting the city lag issue.

Alrighty, well just post the info when you have it and I'll see if there's anything that I think would help.

Here are the screenshots I promised - You can see the fps in the upper right corner.

Edit: I've tried messing around with the in-game settings but they don't give anything. What gave most was disabling Shadows, but that was only a 5-10 fps increase tops.

I have the same problem, the game is almost unplayable in big cities. While running through the wilderness or a small city is somewhat ok-ish.

Yup - if I go up the big tower in Novodmitrovsk I drop down to 15 fps sometimes... That is with all the above settings..

I do have the exact same issue. also i noticed the more stuff you wear and gathered, the more laggy it becomes. restarting my computer sometimes does help. This should be priority no.1 fixing the most important parts of the map..

I have not experienced what you mention there, that carrying more stuff equals more lag. Restarting my PC does not affect the issue in any way either.

But I totally agree, it would be a great addition to the game, if it didn't lag so much in cities, and that the game would be able to benefit more from high-end hardware.

Anyway, does anyone have suggestions?

Tried a few tweaks in the Nvidia driver and using Nvidia inspector, but those tweaks did not increase the fps in any way...

What fps are you guys experiencing when running through a big city, like Cherno, Elektro or Novodmitrovsk? I sometimes drop all the way down to 16fps...  :beans:

I'm also still looking forward for any suggestions you guys have!

PS.The game is still in ALPHA,and you agreed to take a part in it.

It's the game man don't worry it's poorly unoptimized. My OC'd gtx 970 is seeing similar fps that my gtx 670 did, and it's at 40% usage. Just keep your objects on very low and shadows on normal.

Aye - can't wait for better optimization! :)

40/40 server, 1080p, gtx970 oc'd, i7 4790k oc'd, 8gb ram.

Try these settings instead. Very low objects and normal shadows. Object detail is the biggest fps hit so for now it's best to just leave them to minimum. My texture settings are very high/very high. Your rig is clearly more powerful than mine yet I'm getting higher fps than you. It appears the better the rig, the shittier performance, lol.

Your quality settings: https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1221x687q90/633/xyS2HV.png -running around in center city I get low mid 30's min.

My quality settings: https://imageshack.com/i/iparaXI8p - running around in center city I get mid 40's min.

My rendering settings: https://imageshack.com/i/extNQQUPp

Side note, if you turn on fxaa use high since very high is bugged and makes things blurry. Ambient occlusion is currently disabled in the alpha. Disabling AA from very high gives me 2-3 more fps, so I just leave it maxed. Hope it helps.

im a seasoned vet, specially when it comes to helping with fps issues.

my recent upgrade to the x99 architecture has seen drastic fps drops. all across the board.

with no fix or even reason in sight.

this is most certainly something that is not "easily" fixable. the only thing i have yet to try is shutting down cores...but that aint gonna happen.

dude its 100% to do with the new processors and SA.

my x58 rig works perfectly with the same ssd swapped in for testing.

its night and day how shit SA plays on our fancy new cpu's.

nothing to do with GPU, and op you have a big e-peen lol.

what is your clock speed on the x99 rig?

what kills me is you have issues with your 3930k...i mean that cpu should ruin dayz, its simple and its 4/8 core.

the only diff between my x58 and x99 is the mobo/ram/cpu.  which are all new and should but ol betsy (i7 930) to shame

I dont know if this would help a bit with the issue, but i recently came across a post mentioning that the game can somewhat downclock the gpu as long its the nvidia type. It has something to do with power management. Im not the bit tech gizz wizz but the article stated if you go into nvidia control panel and click on the 3d option -> find the program settings for dayz and try to change the power management option for the highest setting without letting the program decide this. It should allegedly increase the fps in larger cities. I havent had the chance to play with these settings yet, but I will try it out for a fact here tuesday evening CET where I'll be streaming. I'll return with any feedback after this!!

Happy new year to all!

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/218539-performance-issues/#entry2197074

youll get 100 fps in dayz with ur rig, you need to config the shit out of it.

malloc and cpucount to 12, or 16 in an 8/16core rig will help immensely.

also make sure you cpu isnt stepping down, mine was being lazy and dropping to a measily 3.3 ghz and i had to set it up to be 4.3ghz at all times in games like dayz and arma 3 and also the core options enableht and cpucount would help that as well.

some settings on ultra helped the cpu work at its max, giving me better fps than the same settings on low-med.

it was a serious days work of config...
