After a rough time getting started again after the 0.49 wipe, I finally got some basic equipment, and was healthy and healed.

My son decided to join me in some Dayz again, and he too was having a rough time as a bambi, with zombies...and players. He discovered where he was located, so I changed direction and began navigating to the east coast (gotta luv that compass!).

I looted as I went, and eventually had a fire axe and a Makarov with some clips. A mountain backpack with some trusty tools, and a worn leather cowboy hat.

I came to a small city and spotted a multi-story office block or school. Having watched a video recently about the Longhorn, I thought I'd try my luck.

Up the stairs I went, around and around. Suddenly, a player appears, running down the stairs, with fire axe in hand. Thinking quickly, I just kept going, dodging around him, with a friendly greeting over my shoulder - no reply. I imagined he was a startled as I was.

I go up several more flights of stairs to the top landing. To my surprise, I see him coming back up after me, this time with his axe at the striking position! "What the hell" I think to myself.

Not wishing a confrontation that will not end well for either of us, and not wanting my gear ruined on the way to joining my son (I had gathered extra stuff for him), I decide to try the trick again. As he charges at me, I duck past him, and start back down the stairs at a run.

I spot a zombie coming up the stairs, and dodge past him as well. A second one appears from below, and I get past him too. A third in the lobby of the building.

Finally I'm free and clear, running through the streets, muttering to my son (who's in the same room as me), about the crazed player. As I do regularly, I had a look over my shoulder...and to my surprise, this guy is still chasing me through the streets, axe raised, pack of Z's on his tail. Crazed AND persistant!

As I'm running, I ready my Makarov. I stop and whirl around, ready to end this little hunt...and he's gone. I pop a hopper, and then leave the city.

As I travel, I keep checking my six to see if I'm being followed. I'm shaking my head at the play style of this guy, chasing a player so doggedly, despite zombies taking such a keen interest. I consider returning to the city and trying to hunt him down in turn, but decide against it, and continue towards my rendezvous.

Returning to Dayz after a long break, I had some trouble at first finding equipment and supplies. My character died a number of times from dehydration!

Finally I got it to work. Spent some time in Novo. Scrounged enough to survive. I was even able to get a pump action shotgun, a Longhorn, and ammo for both. Blasted one Z from long range with the Longhorn, and several more with the shotgun.

Now what? I decided to be daring and head to the big central airbase. I travelled through zombie infested towns. Drank water from ponds. Picked up some bits of supplies along the way.

When I arrived at the airfield it was night time. I couldn't see any movement, so I approached the tents at the northern end of the base. Once inside the small gatehouse building, I spotted a Z shambling aimlessly across the perimeter road in the distance, and taking carefull aim, I pegged it with my scoped Longhorn. The shot sounded like thunder, echoing across the base.

Wondering if I might have attracted the attention of more Z's - or other scavengers - I kept watch for a while. No movement or sound. Against my better judgement, I scaled a gun tower for a better view, aware that I would be silhouetted against the night sky. Then I readied my shotgun and began searching the tents. Lean pickins.

I was searching the third row of tents when I started to get a feeling that I wasn't alone. I don't know why. I looked around me in all directions. I thought I saw movement in some bushes in the middle distance. A zombie? Must be a trick of the low light conditions. I zoomed in, and could no longer see any movement or humanoid shape.

I entered the last tent. A pair of old boots. I turned to face the door. I got that funny feeling again, but no movement, no sound except the wind. Time to search the barracks I thought to myself.

I exited, turning toward the bushes where I thought I saw movement earlier. Suddenly from behind me the sound of rapid semi automatic fire! The darkness was lit up by bright flashes. Time seemed to slow down. But I knew I was done for. I never saw my attacker.

The ambush gave me a really good jump-scare! I stared in surprised silence at the "you are dead" text, and exited. Almost immediately I wished that I hadn't, because I would have liked to say something to my attacker. Ask him or her if they had tracked me, or if I was simply a target of opportunity. I don't know if you can still communicate once you are dead. Does anyone know?

Not without a medium. ;)

Good story though.

I had a good encounter with a muppet at the Vybor military base the other day. Was heading there when I noticed the telltale column of smoke that indicates a heli crash. Being a high pop server I figure there's probably nothing there, but I hadn't seen one in so long I figure I'll check it out. It was on the far side of veresnik (the hill near Vybor base). I'm fully geared and a tad worried about wandering so far out in the open and exposing myself, but I'm really hoping for a smersh vest... Ah screw it. So I sprint out to the chopper and as I thought, zip... nothing... nada. Completely looted.

Then I get this weird feeling - exactly like the one you described - that I'm not alone. I kneel next to the chopper and scope out veresnik with my bino's and lo and behold there's a dude there in a green motorbike helmet scoping me through what I assume is a Mosin with an LRS. Just as a zoom out a shot cracks into the dirt next to me. Lucky this guy can't shoot and I sprint to a bush. I sit there for a second, wondering how I could be so dumb to get caught like that. All I have is an AK with no optics and this guy is like, 500m away and a speck without some sort of zoom. So I decide, 'screw it, making a run for it' and sprint backwards in line with the bush towards the creek (anyone who's familiar with this area knows what creek I'm talking about).

I reach it without another shot being fired and I crouch down and scope this guy through my bino's again. The muppet is still laying the the same spot, facing the bush I ran from! He hasn't even moved positions after taking a shot at me!! Flanking time! So I make my way up the creek slowly, towards veresnik, scoping this guy every few meters. It took about 5 minutes for me to reach the slopes of veresnik and  this guy legit did not move from his spot. So I sneak up the slope and then down into the bushes where he is laying, right up behind him and empty half a clip of 5.45 rounds into him as he freaks out and tries to make a run for it.

Turns out he has an AK as well and took his potshot at me with no optics. What kind of muppet takes a potshot at someone 500m away with no optics and then hangs around?

Stole his AK101 (because he had more mags than me for my 74) and the silencer off his pistol.

Combat tactics vs muppet - love it! Haha! :D

Funny that 'Spidey Sense Tingling' eh? Seems to work even while playing a game. And why shouldn't it? Ask any medium. ^_^

Once upon a time I have spawned somewhere near Industrial site east coast. First up of course i needed warm clothes and food. All I found was damaged coat and ruined potato.

Nevermind I ran into woods, to find some other location with loot, three villages later I realized that hunger will kill me in 10-15 minutes. I found a firestation in some town, walked in and found gas can and hammer. Nice.

Wanted to take a look from the top of the tower. Noticed grocery store nearby, wanted to go there. Started to go down, zombie found me. Zombie knocked me out, when i woke up, zombie was dead and i was naked.

Noticed another player looking for berries in bushes or something. I wanted to crawl away from him and 15 meters away from him server synced, he stood above me with axe, broke my legs and knocked me out again. Two minutes later i woke up again noboody was around, i was bleeding. Nice.

Not sure what killed me bleeding or hunger.

so i died on my favorite private hive a days weeks ago, and with the wipe coming at .56 i figured i would not play on that private hive until after the wipe, and satisfy my lust by playing on the private hive. in any case, when i logged on tonight, that private hive was the only high pop server that was not completely full. (from memory, it was 48/50) so i jumped in and spawned in electro. met a mad freshspawn who had a habit of charging fully geared guys, and i ran into him three times that night, once in electro, once in novo, then in electro again.

this was the most fun night i have had in dayz for a long time. i have forgotten what it was like to be able to run fearless at an enemy, to charge head first at an enemy and try to knock them out (BTW electric cattle prod is shit) and the thrill of winning. for so long, dayz was about my paranoia, how prepared for every situation i was, and then it was gone. i have probably been killed more tonight than in the last three months combined. and it was great. new people, new roles (i have been a comedian, pirate, juke box guy, and a priest of the noodle lord all in the space of 2 hours) and it was the best fun!!!

Got back into Dayz again this weekend. Had the usual effect on me - alternating tense (paraniod!) and relaxing moments.

Played the game on and off during Saturday. I took a long winding journey north from the coast, foraging and picking up bits of gear as I went.

After several hours, I had gathered samples of almost every ammo type in the game...except for the ones that would fit the 2 guns I had found! Arg!

I avoided military bases, or going deep into cities. I didn't come across any players, but battled some Z's.

Eventually I had gathered a satisfying bag of loot, and took stock. My favourite items were present...mountain backpack, compass, binoculars, and several canteens. A selection of food and medical equipment, including water purifiers. I dropped a bunch of stuff I had been lugging around...like 2 full quivers of crossbow bolts!

With glee I also examined my two primary weapons - a pristine fireaxe (gotten at considerable risk from the outskirts of a city), and for the first time ever...an MP5 with 3 attachments including scope, and several full magazines. Mmmm, my preeeecious.

I played with two guys today, one of them was danish, the other one from austria.

I was surprised who long I could play together with two totally foreign people, without getting killed.

We got our way through electro and cherno, till we decided to get on the prison Island. As we got there we looted some stuff and then a forth guy appeared. He shot one of us and told him to raise up his hands - my fellow resisted and started attacking him.

As this guy realized that we were three people (he didnt knew that in the first place apparently) he started to insult us. He said several things, sometimes in german, sometimes in english. (I am german, so I did understand everything)

We had no guns, so we only used our axes and after a short time he had no ammo left. So it was basicly a pretty dirty fight.

He called us pretty racist things like "niggas" or "jews" and got on with some stuff about our moms. Of course we killed him pretty fast. What makes this situation so memorable is just the point, that he got punished for all those words he used. Of course he's not going to change hisself, but at least justice was done. <3
