Hard Drive hindering FPS...

Recommended Posts

So I have a mid range PC.

Mobo: Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3

Graphic Card: Gtx 560 Ti - not OCd

Cpu: AMd Athlon x4 635 - Quad core clocked at 2.9

PSU: 800 Ocz PSU

RAM: 4 gb DDR3 - 1333mhz

HDD: The one I am using is a terribly small 80gb. I lost my 1 tb to a crash and this was my only other spare. It is still SATA though.

Now here's my issue. I have my game on the lowest of low settings. But My hard drive can't load the game fast enough to keep my frames smooth. MY CPUs don't get hot or overloaded, and my GPU stays cool nearly the whole time, and I can even ALT + Tab and multitask. It's just my HDD can't load all of the elements fast enough for me to have smooth frames. What are you fixes/suggestions?

Your system is weak all around my firend. The GPU should be fine but you are low on ram (causes paging) and I'm going to guess the 80gb is an old laptop drive? The CPU is also weak.

I think you may be a candidate for this. Give it a try it helped me out a lot on my old laptop.

The obvious solution is to upgrade your hardware.

According to this you can put an FX8150 (which may be hard to find) in that board, double your ram and pick up at least a 7200rpm hard drive (though an ssd would be best). I realize that this may not be economically feasible ATM but its something to shoot for if you run into some cash.

Not sure why you think it a hardrive problem but. Even with some of the top of the line hardware most people can only run on low settings to reach 60fps because of how poorly optimized the game curenlty is. Bean King is right that you need a new build soon as that hardware is ending its cylce but you should be fine for a while longer still. So you can only run on low setting join the club like eveyone else.
