smoq2 221 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) Have they nerfed the mosin yet again? I received a point-blank bodyshot to the chest wearing an empty damaged hoodie. It completely ruined the hoodie and everything in my talon backpack, but my char sustained only a minor injury - bleeding + some loss of health. However, I was still on my feet and managed to axe my attacker to death. In 0.48 I would be already dead, or at least on the ground and unconscious. A few minutes later, I managed to get a clear chest shot on someone else wearing a wool coat, and he didn't die either. Why on earth would they nerf the mosin? IMO, it was one of the more balanced (damage-wise) weapons in the game. Today I saw a video where they test the sporter once more. The test subject dies after one shot to the head although wearing a Gorka helmet + visor shield combo. Does anyone have any info on what has happened with the gun damage, since they didn't include any tweaking in the change log? DerDuderich 149 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) Well I guess they are playing around with the damage parameters. It'll be a long discussion to figure out how much damage every weapon is supposed to deal. Personally, I would like to see less "one-shot" weapons (except for a clear headshot and a close range shotgun round maybe). Until 0.48, every Mosin hit would kill you, even if you were shot in an arm or a leg. So playing around with the Mosin is not necessarily a bad thing, it was not overpowered but pretty damn strong. A clear chest shot as you descibe it should definitly damage someone pretty badly though... Nevertheless I would love to see the Sporter .22 buffed because it was near to useless prior to .49... smoq2 221 Posted September 18, 2014 It's not the nerf that's the problem, it's the scale of the nerf. It looks like a 180* turn in the design from an OP gun (nor really that OP IMO) to a useless pea-shooter. That, and the fact that it's not in the change log. Evil Minion 943 Posted September 18, 2014 Maybe there was no nerf at all? This might be part of the last balance changes. And I have still no source/confirmation about "7.62x54mmR deals the same damage as 7.62x39mm" - which means so far I consider this one a hoax (as it doesn't match my experiences).Does anyone have any info on what has happened with the gun damage, since they didn't include any tweaking in the change log?The only information I have on gun damage is this sheet (probably taken from gamefiles). Not sure if its correct though and even then some modifiers are missing. However, surviving a Mosin shot was possible for a long time, nothing new - are you sure you did not get hit in the arms? In my opinion a full power rifle should kill with about two chest shots but deal significant damage with just one. Also I believe distance doesn't matter in DayZ.

Well, it's not a hoax, I can assure you of that (whatever merit such a claim on an internet forum can have). I'm just posting my observations and what I experienced is something "new". I was shot hundreds of times with a mosin round and killed/wounded an equal amount of other players with it as well in my 500+ hours of gameplay. If I was shot in an arm it would cause a fracture (at least the one without a status message in the inventory) and it didn't. I'm also positive my victim in the second encounter took a solid chest shot. I'm basing the claim on my experience with the game, which is a sound comparison. Although I agree, more solid tests are required. Thank you for the sheet, it does provide interesting data. However, without a similar documentation of 0.48, we cannot compare the values and see if something changed. All in all, I'd be very happy to be proven wrong, since this would mean my favourite weapon was left alone. ;) Edited September 18, 2014 by retro19
Evil Minion 943 Posted September 18, 2014 DayZTV has sheets for both 0.48 and clothing properties as well. And it might be from a former build (at least I hope as the shotgun pellets still got a damage rating of 60 on it).
hombrecz 832 Posted September 18, 2014 Like month ago, I shot a dude from mosin 3x time, he lived and wasted me with a pistol. Anyway I shot him point blank, 1x stomach, 1x arm and 1x legs.He fell down to the ground, pistol appeared in his head and BOOM, I was dead. But yeah, some desync must have played it's part, dude's animations, when on ground with broken legs whipping pistol, were far from smooth.

The iron sights were good and the recoil and sound were almost non-existent.
sachad 1016 Posted September 18, 2014 I like the Sporter. Especially with some 30 round clips. And even the bravest guys will duck for cover when you're firing rapidly at them with a Sporter. It's a good starter gun if you've never played the game, before upgrading to the big boy guns.
johnny0964 (DayZ) 15 Posted September 18, 2014 I hate the sporter. A .22 may be a gun, and you may duck for cover, but I just hate the damage output. It's too small to do any real damage. If you see a guy with a CR527 and all you've got is a sporter, he just needs to land a single shot on you and then you're at about half blood.

That is only due to the super broken damage mechanics in game. Take a .22lr to the chest and you will not be sprinting anywhere, you internals will be filling with blood, and after a few painful hours you will die. flimsypremise 94 Posted September 18, 2014 I think the Moisin has some problems, (it's way more accurate in the game than it should be), but getting shot a close range should definitely do a lot of damage. It may not be accurate, but goddamn is it powerful.
Sirwarriant12 94 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) If they did nerf it again, I really wish they would put in more of a dedicated sniper(not the dragonov i i consider it more of a dmr) before they start nerfing the only viable bolt action we really have. It is already at a disadvantage when going up against people with akms whith PSO scopes due to it being bolt action and they generally have drum mags. Get rid of the 1 shots to legs and arms, make upper torso/chest 1-2 shots and call it good until an actual sniper gets put in. On a side note i'm pleased with the sporter buff, managed to get a few kills in Elektro with it last night. Edited September 18, 2014 by Sirwarriant12
