Smaller, more "realistic" muzzle flashes?

Recommended Posts

The muzzle flashes currently for most of the guns are rather big, and actually get in the way quite a lot when trying to aim down the sights. From watching videos of real guns being shot, the real muzzle flashes are no where near as big or as bright as they are currently in DayZ.

One thing I did notice with real rifles is that there is far more smoke.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Ben.

Smoke would require more particles, which would be more intensive for the CPU, as particles are CPU calculated + more draw-calls because they are transparent, for transparent objects to be transparent, the gpu has to render the scene twice, one time for the transparency and one time for everything that is opaque. Normally this should not be a problem with an up to date renderer. Maybe we will see it in the future?

Yes I agree part of the problem too is the insane amount of smoke that is produced.

It is unrealistic and it makes follow up shots problematic.

The counter strike approach is good, its realistic and not annoying for follow up shots.
