What is going to happen when an unlisted player tries to join a whitelisted server? Is there going to be a way add some sort of message to tell them where and how to get added? How did it work in the mod, I honestly can't remember?

More than likely.  For now there'd probably be a generic 'You have been kicked: Not Whitelisted." message.
