Seriously, mate? It is a fucking hacksaw, a tool that should be in almost every single garage in Chernarus. Let us not even touch dedicated workshops. 

 

Same thing with hammers, and duct tape, and rope, and GODDAMN MAPS. I can go to the convience store right down my road and pick up road maps for the entire goddamn state. I can go to the US Federal Park Service center downtown, and pick up topographical maps for the entire goddamn state. Why do we have to search for them in-game? Why are they split into 4 pieces? How do you attach pieces of a paper map back together?

 

See, there is "difficult", then there is "artificial difficulty". The stupid and nonsensical loot system is partly an example of the latter.

Calm down. My point is that Bohemia probably fixes this with 0.49. There are bugs and glitches in games that are in Alpha state.

Hacksaws: apart from garages, check the little wooden sheds in gardens, check the greenhouses, check car wrecks (scrapyards are fucking goldmines atm), barns, agricultural warehouses, industrial buildings, workshops, etc.

 

I tend to stick to the smaller towns and out-of-the-way villages, and I check every room in every building. I find a lot of worthless shit, but I never go very long before seeing ropes, matches and hacksaws; I also find more guns and ammo than I could ever possibly use or even carry. I just don't find assault rifles or military clothing. But I don't want or need them, anyway. The only nuisance item to find is magazines, but SKSs are everywhere so I don't tend to give a shit.

 

EDIT: Oh, and binoculars. I have no fucking idea where they spawn, haven't seen one for about the last 3 patches, and am starting to doubt whether they even exist anymore.

Check jeep wrecks and the mil tents.  Also the ATC.  Basically, mil spawns I guess.

 

I think they should be slightly more common, I love me some binocs.  With the abundance of scopes, most people just seem to ignore them though =/

And thank you everyone for telling me about sticks. I didn't know it was easy to find the right bush or tree. I asuumed only certain trees would allow it and it would be hard to find.

 

Any of the trees that you chop down will give you the tree limb, simply split that for three sticks :)  As in the mod when we refused to travel without morph now we always prioritise a splint as an essential item.

I can't believe it! I finally found a freaking hacksaw!

 

I had to journey way up north in some very sparse parts of the map (wood piles, a single structure in the woods, etc.) After searching on dirt roads I came upon a small shack-like structure with a water pump nearby. I went in and there it was, all shining like it came down from heaven just for me!

 

Funny, this place is just above the North West Airstrip. All that time heading north, checking literally every building I came across, all the houses, construction sites, etc. Man was it a chore. I think I'm just going to find a shotty and saw it off. Seems like the Mosin isn't very good with a short barrel (as per what some people said in this thread). I also just found a pristine Rider's jacket (fuck yeah!) and I know where a shotty is, even though it will be semi-long trip to go get it.

It is sadistic, I spent a few days looking for a hacksaw too (thinking it would fit in the chest holster So I've been juggling my Fire Axe, Mosin and Shotgun.. so tedious but now I have 30+ shells),

Played Night server earlier... just after I sorted some gear, prone in the street, a figure catches my eye.. A crouched zombie... between him and me is the hacksaw.. Ain't nothing standing in my way.. ran at the zed.. LOTR style with my axe and there was another zombie next to it round the corner. Nothing stopped me, I would have taken down 8 more If I had to.

So I dumped my Scoped Mosin (cry me a river) and cut it down too (cry some more). And went back to where I stashed my shotgun. Bliss. 

 

It gave me an idea... If you manage to capture somebody, don't want to kill them and can't take their guns, you should be able to use the hacksaw to RUIN the weapon

I know this isn't the answer to your question, but the sawed off Mosin is a joke.

 

Sawing off the Mosin takes away the only GOOD think the rifle has going for it, which is its range and accuracy (within 400 meters). Sawing it off basically turns it into a high-powered, 5-round capacity, incredibly inaccurate fanboy of the Long Horn.

Except that at any given moment you may not have a Long Horn but a small, high-powered weapon that does not require a magazine could be something you want. Dismissing a weapon based upon what theoretically is the most optimal isn't a very useful attitude and will likely become simply detrimental if guns become harder to acquire or maintain.

But why would you acquaintance yourself with such measly guns when high powered rifles such as the AK variants are readily available, even more so then acquired the tools and guns to create a Sawed off Mosin.

 

An AKM is 5x more deadly then a Mosin, with a 75-round drum, high damage at close range, and rapid fire.

 

The Mosin is clip less, requiring manual loading, IS deadly and accurate but is hard to use at close range, and is easily outdone by a more high-capacity rifle.

 

You also have to take in consideration that there is no possibility to spray and pray if your screen is shaky from a common battle injury such as loss of health or a broken leg. You OBVIOUSLY haven't tried to hit a target with a close range Mosin, not to mention its sawed off, under such circumstances.

 

If guns become hard to acquire like you rambled about, then I will easily acquaint myself to using harder to manage rifles such as a long rifle at close range, which is not its purpose. But until that time comes, Ill use the Mosin for its REAL purpose and stick to my original purpose and suggestions.

He isn't kidding. My friend and I spent a week looking for a hacksaw so he could saw off his Mosin. We finally gave up, and when I was lonewolfing the next day I found on in the middle of the road in the middle of nowhere. Literally 5 minutes after I started playing, boom, there it was. So I picked it up excitedly, walked into the next town on my way to meet up with him and bam, another one under the blue trailer thingies. Then another in the camo building north of Svetlo.

That made me smile, damn if that isn't true! The same with what Bean King said. It's like the game is programmed to make certain items rare when you have the complimentary items that go with them. I bet that's the case. Or am I just being paranoid? (which doesn't mean they aren't out to get me!!!)

You have a Mosin... but find a better sniper rifle, saw it down (There's probs still more to come), stick it in your backpack for support, it's as good as a sawn-off shotgun, I think you're being unimaginative .
