random gear wipes based on server?

I've seen some similar posts, but not one specifically addressing this exact issue.  A few times now I've had a bunch of gear and I'll join a server and it's gone...I'll exit and join a different server and it's back... I don't join 1stperson servers and I only join daytime servers (for now).  Does anyone know what the cause of this is and if it's a difference in servers, what that difference is?  Is this simply a bug?  I would just like to know what servers to join that will keep my gear, since certain servers seem to spawn certain characters.  Restarting after a death is one thing, restarting for absolutely no reason is quite discouraging.

no way to know that kind of thing yet, some servers seem to not be connected to the central hive and i think there is now way in the description to know which ones are connected and not

 

just keep trying and when you find a server, stick to that one

Yeah, that's probably a good idea...But if I'm looking for something specific like a magazine for a specific pistol, I'll server hop low pop servers here and there.  That's how I discovered the problem.  I think I might just join a high pop server and head straight for the biggest town nearby and brace for pvp from now on lol, finding gear is annoying and it only lasts a few days anyway (in my case, at least).  I'm just gonna run straight to town and punch everyone I see in the face screaming "I'M MIKE TYSON B!TCH!" through direct chat until I get murdered.

if you join a server, and it goes down, then it goes back up, and loot is the same, doesnt that answer the question in the title already?

 

and also when you join the same server twice you can have your character deleted, so dont do that.

I meant gear on person, not server wide loot.  Sorry for the confusion.
