Staircase of DEATH

This is not new and I have read many a post on it in the past but this is the 2nd time it bit me and I am annoyed (for the next 5 minutes).  I was on experimental southwest 0-8 or 0-4, 1st person, and the same damn stairs in the same damn barn in the row of structures between cherno and electro... start going up the west staircase to the third level (ledge) and wham, pain in leg, you are dead.  This happened weeks ago to me at the exact same spot and I thought I got ambushed.

 

Devs - One big suggestion.  Let us know EXACTLY how we died so we can bug report better.  Help us help YOU.  I am not talking a kill cam, just more info.  If I am naked and I get killed by a pair of pink socks hey, maybe that might be a problem you need to fix.  I can't tell you if I don't know why.  I suspect many deaths have been due to bugs and people just assumed they got ambushed.  This one?  This was a bug.

Well, first off, your position is controlled by the server and not the client anymore. So what happened was that the server kept moving you, which can be lag at a bad moment or other reasons, and it counted you dead before it changed your position back to where you really were. It is a small scale of what happened back in experimental when it would "rubberband" you back. You would clip something and the server thought you were still there so it would rubberband you back. I believe this method is to stop teleporting and other heinous things.

 

But that is what happens when you climb stuff, the server thinks you fell off and you die. That is why if you were to get back to your body or friends at your body they would see the body at the bottom. There is really nothing you can do about this besides not climbing tall things but even short things can kill you like the white barn with red roof.

I "fell" off the tiny 3 step entry platform of a police station and broke my leg. Kinda frustrating.

This is not a terrible idea. Giving us better tools to help diagnose bugs is always good.

But also, I am all for "realism" but at one point or another it has to give way for gameplay enjoyment. I have died quite a few times. Quite the large section of those deaths are from unknown causes and is the cause of much frustration.

 

Just something simple like "Cause of death: 5.56 round to: Head" or "Cause of death: Cardiac arrest from excessive blood loss".

 

Nothing overly detailed, but it would help me identify the times I got screwed by the game from the times I got screwed by other people.

Stairs are deathtraps in this game. The ladders on the outside of ATC is also bugged, not to mention the staircase in the camo prison buildings, hell even the place you usually glitched through the wall seems to have a bear trap, just standing there will break your leg.

 

Top of the fire station, barns, and the list goes on. If you stand on a staircase that doesn't have anything on the side, switching weapons might "push" you off. 

These are all known bugs, most of them are in the tracker, and there are videos about them. I think it's on the developers radar, we just have to wait for a fix :)

Sorry to be an ass about this, but aren't you asking for the developers to tell you exactly what happens so that you can help them figure out exactly what happens? Sort of a logical short circuit in there.

I've actually never had a stair mishap after 200 hours but I know I'm lucky. I don't know if it's just luck but I never, ever run up stairs. Actually I don't run inside at all. The second I enter a server the first button I push is ctrl. (Crap is that default walk? It's so habit I can't remember.)

Then when I want to run when I'm outside I double tap W and I'm on my way.

Also I find that when I climb a ladder even when I think up at the top press up for a full 2 more seconds. No falling off that way although I've had a few ruined pants from z's that way.

I think this is a good idea, and I think this has been thinked before. Why it is not implemented? Who knows?

 

But seriously it would help with fustration caused by "unknown" deaths, and also help report bugs. It's alpha right?!
