Do you think the LRS will be removed from Mosin when...

It'd be interesting to go to the machine shops in Cherno and Elektro to grab drill bits, taps and rapidtap but that seems a little too in-depth I suppose.

any hardware store or auto repair shop would have them as well. taps are not expensive or some super secret complex magic tool. they are essentially specialized drill bits. it would be cool to find and use them in game to mount scopes tho.

This the mounting and removal of accessories needs to get some depth.

Even something as simple as needing a screw driver or an animation when removing or adding accessories would be awesome.

I work in a shop and use taps occasionally. They are fragile and I'm sure anyone who picks one up without knowing about backing off and such would snap one right away or drill the wrong size hole without a chart.

i learned to use taps and stuff through trial and error when i was a kid. i used to steal my dads tools and tinker with stuff. i ruined a lot of my parents appliances and tv's when i was a kid but it came in handy when i got my current job running robotic cnc lathes.

However although I can't really say with certainty how likely it would be I would bet that it would be nearly impossible to find such a mount for a mosin in a remote eastern region like Chenarus once the world has ended due to a zombie plague

Errr, wait, what?

Does all the stuff that people purchased/installed just disappear when zombies start shambling around? The fact that an apocalypse has happened should have no bearing on what is in the country already, sitting there for years prior, at the time of the apocalypse.

Unless zombies are on Amazon. Then all bets are off.

No what I am saying is once the supply chain stops I doubt it is likely you would find common things years after the collapse of society finding something like a specialized mosin mount would likely to be even rarer.

I dont think those specialized mounts are all that common to begin with.

But if the supply chain stops, then you're left with whatever was there previously. So, it's not like these things just magically get expended and somehow become more rare than they would otherwise have been because the UPS man stops delivering.

I can't read a scenario into DayZ's timeline, especially not one that's concrete, and especially not one that's so specific that would somehow allow me to arrive at the conclusion that Mosin mounts, across the board, became rarer as a result of X happening in the apocalypse.

Given their mass-produced nature, global availability, and the fact that there are a plethora of generic manufacturers... I don't think they'd be any less common than a PU scope w/ mount.

I like this idea. The screw driver seems rather pointless at the moment.

There's a problem in your logic. We shouldn't have weapons changed for balance purposes.

For a competitive game balance is a good thing, you shouldn't say "Oh, X weapon needs buffs or nerfs" for this game. Just let things perform how they should. Excluding goofy attachments for an old rifle without specifically making a mount sounds like a great idea.

And what did I say? There's a problem with your reading skills, do not worry about my logic XD

What about price of that hunting scope? Isn't it itself a factor, that would warrant higher rarity than that of PU scope?

So yea, here comes realism again :-). Expensive things should be A LOT more rare than those that are cheap.

I really can't wait for beta to see how rarity will change gameplay.

Hopefully you woun't find SKS in every other house, ammo woun't be plentiful and finding high zoom optics should also not be that common occurance.

Edit: Funny how Mr.Torchia says how devs are paying attention to "realism junkies" (sounds a bit pejorative to me) and they still added export AK101 in NATO caliber.  I mean, if "realism junkies" were held in high regard, this would not happen. If AK101 is the only member of AK74 family to be added, then it is simply wrong from realism point of view. But I am still (secretly) hoping, that AK74M will make it into the game in PROPER 5.45x39 caliber ! Which would disconnect it from western weapons as it should be.

Why would you remove the LRS from Mosin? It has already been weakened in the damage department.

Now it takes 2 shots to the chest to kill someone and sometimes even 4 depending on the layers of protection. Why cripple the Mosin even more by removing LRS from it.

You silly knucklehead.

I forgot to say. Though , I hope the LRS gets taken off the  Mosin, that the PU scope can get its actual real life vision. It's currently at a fraction of what it should be.

Junkies doesn't have to be pejorative. An action junkie, car junkie, in the United States... these just mean that one is an enthusiast of something. Junkie is only pejorative when the qualifier is pejorative/negative (i.e. a heroin junkie, a violence junkie, etc.)

And he didn't say "obeying the every whim of realism junkies," so... yeah. Difference between doing everything you want, and finding a middle ground. The issue is, that you associate total and absolute obedience to your ideology (i.e. realism) with merely being paid attention to or being held in high regard. This type of unreasonable absolutism is what truly is at the root of many of the issues with which you find fault.

They can value your opinion, but not obey your every command.

And price shouldn't really be a factor in DayZ, because we're not paying for things. Hunting scopes, or whatever item, should be rare/common because of a wide variety of factors. Not only one factor. And certainly not one as irrelevant as "pricing." Especially with optics (which can range from $40 USD for a knock-off 12x, to thousands of dollars for a quality 12x) because price doesn't really dictate capability, but tends to justify quality.

And you want to talk price? What about the multi-thousand dollar Blaser B95? Or the $1,300 USD Amphibian S? For the price of one Blaser over-under, I could buy one or two brand new FNH SCAR 17s's at MSRP.

A $2 USD hamburger probably won't taste as good as a $50 USD Wagyu beef hamburger with foie gras on it. But they're still hamburgers.

If Devs valued opinion of reality junkies, Mosin woud shoot proper caliber, Magpul attachments would not affect dispersion, only memeber of AK74 family would shoot 5.45x39 and I can continue. So again, you seem to be greatly exaggerating.

And price of something can be used as factor of rarity. Something rare is considered as having bigger value hence it is usualy more expensive. Logicaly the best scopes would be rare as opposed to some PU scopes or the like. Again do not see your problem here except that maybe you dislike real things and would prefer everything subjugated to some game purposes (like every building having more entrances because you dislike camping).

Regarding Blaser B95, I would rather see cheaper alternative and then having Blaser as something rare.

Well maybe that is what will happen since you know we are in alpha and ton of stuff is missing.

Really not sure why are you bringing up Blaser anyway? Is it a straw man argument?

1. Again, proving my point. You associate "valuing your opinion" with "doing everything that you want." For instance, I value your opinion. But disagree with it in certain areas.

It's also worth mentioning... that they're going to put in 7.62x54R... have significantly reduced the dispersion of weapons across the board... and an AK-101 firing 5.56x45 is realistic... as it exists in reality.

2. No a straw man argument would have to distract from the issue that you raised (i.e. price dictating rarity) by changing the argument itself. You think that price should be a factor in rarity and/or deeming whether or not something should be included in the game. I highlighted how this is already not the case, as the Blaser B95 costs upwards of 3-10 thousand dollars USD in the real world (depending on how much engraving you get on it) and is spawning in residential locations.

And I love camping, it's a wonderful thing. I want certain high-value buildings to be more unpredictable. Now that is a straw-man argument, though.

1. I was trying to high light, that not that much was based on opinion of realism junkies, thats all

2. But I fully agree that once we have more guns, Blaser should be more rare and that is in line with my price dictating rarity opinion, isn't it? Now I know devs most likely do not share this opinion, but we shall see in Beta.

Atleast you were not advocating for making Castles to be more "fair" for attackers. That would be funny since the sole purpose of Castles was to make them easy to defend, hard to conquer :-).
