There's no link or way to tell their steam ID / name from their in game name. Your best bet is to post their names here and hope they see it and keep an eye out for them in game. To be honest it's going to be an uphill battle to find them because there is no global chat or way to contact them in game other than seeing them in the player list and somehow locating them as you blindly fumble from city to city. Your chances are better of getting struck my lightning. There should be a way to do it though... maybe on the forums there could be a "Have you seen me?" kinda like they put the kids on the milk cartons.

There is a method to infer names sometimes, esp if people want to be found.

After leaving the game, you couldve opened steam and click on "fellow players" (or however that tap is called) -> past session, at the bottom of the screen. That would show you all the steam names of the people you played with before the server went down. If they have similar names in steam as ingame, you can contact them.

As I said, look for similarities in names. One of them couldve had a similar name like ingame.

If you did not play yet on another server again, then just as I described. Launch DayZ, open Steam, go to friends->fellow players>past sessions.

I notice they all have mdk in their name. Ever think of Googling their clan? I did. Try it. Maybe even put a Dayz in your search parameters. Now join or message their clan and boom...instant friends!

This^.

Also, if you can remember what server you were on, frequent it a lot. Most players/clans have a few servers that they favor. So more likely than not, they'll be back on there again I would think.

Little story of my own: I once met a cool dude at the shipwreck. We chatted for a bit, & both intended on going to NEAF, so we decided to travel together. Made small talk along the way, & eventually made our way to Krasno. As we entered the city, we started taking fire, & retreated into a piano house. We went upstairs & watched the staircase, waiting for our attackers approach. We kept communication at this point to a minimum, because we hadn't exchanged info yet, were talking in-game VOIP, & didn't want the shooters to hear us. All-in-all, our attackers killed both of us inside the piano house. As a fresh spawn I traveled the cost for a bit, searching for my newly-befriended diseased homie with no luck & I logged off for the night.

Logged back on the next day, in the same server, & happened to come across my friend from the shipwreck. Once we realized that we knew eachother from the day before, we exchanged info & laughed about the whole matter for the rest of the day while looting.

We still roll together to this day. Anything is possible.

We fought a clan on our server.. they tracked us down via the internet, left us a message in our forum about how they respected us for playing fair..

and now we are all friends. All from a battle against each other.

DayZ can have some really great moments..
