"persistence enabled" servers = new character slot?

Recommended Posts

Ok,

I didn't play DayZ for some months now, started again some days ago.

I still have my fully geared hardcore and normal characters, but what about these servers with "Persistence enabled" or similar names? If I try to enter any of them, I'm a fresh spawn. Returning to a normal or hardcore server gives me back my old characters. Does that mean that we have now a 3rd character slot when playing on these "persistence" servers?

And second question:

Can someone provide me with a link what it's about with this persistence thingy in general? Browsed a bit through forums, but couldn't find something significant.

Thanks in advance

I've just returned to DayZ too and I'm pretty sure these "persistence enabled" -servers use same regular character I geared up months ago.

Occasionally some of these servers spawn me fresh but I'm back to my old character when I change to another server.

Same regular character for me. The persistence servers are a test run, they hope to push it to the rest of the stable servers (including hardcore) by the end of August.

Regular character for me too. But it was soooo boring playing on these servers. There basically no loot at all.

Some of the persistent servers are prone to having issues gathering existing character data from the main hive, meaning it can't connect to it well enough to be able to find your existing character and then defaults you to a fresh spawn, if this happens immediately disconnect from that server and join another one, the sooner the better, playing for too long on a fresh character could result in an overwrite of your existing character on the main hive (if the server does manage to establish a connection to the hive later). The best way to tell is watch the lower left of the screen as you are entering the server, if "Testing 1, 2, 3" pops up, that is a fresh spawn, exit quickly to avoid issues.
